I've been thinking of new ideas obvious one is more ships/fighters etc, but other than that I have thought of a couple of things which Im not 100% sure is possible but here goes.

 

1: New Minor races: is there a way to include specific defensive races into the game ie naboo, tapani, mandalorians, chiss and hapan. Make it so they cannot colonize new worlds other than ones they start with in their empires but give them unique ships. for example is it possible to call all the neutral ships defending naboo as the naboo defense force ? make them cpu controlled and allow them to develope the planet, build structures, new ships etc.

 

2: Fog of war: IMO it would be best to remove this completely as 90% of planets are already known to the main factions. Possible ?

 

3: Include new fighters with newer ships ie Tie Defender or Tie Avenger is researched and included/available with the Executor ?

 

4: Taking control of planets: is there a way to NOT destroy all the buildings/structures etc when wanting to take control of a planet ? Maybe Im missing something here but the amount of good shipyards that need to be destroyed when taking an enemy planet is a waste.

 

5: Direct hyperjumps: yes keep phaselanes as supply lanes etc but is it possible most ships from the sw universe just jump direct to where they want to be ?

 

As I said these are just a few ideas I have in my head atm not sure how easy/practical it will be to include any.

1) Doubt it, would require developing a faction + an AI

2) Don't think there's a way to do this

3) Possible, if and when the NR and Vong get released, I'd expect maybe some upgrades to the Empire to stretch post-ROTJ

4) No. This is the way the game engine works

5) No, not without game engine changes

5 could be done by making every planet a wormhole, it's just a TRUE/FALSE toggle in the planet files. While it would make for more realistic travel, it would also butcher anything resembling front lines, defensive positions, trivial things like that. Not a good idea.

 

1 can be done lame by just changing names in the galaxy constants files, but unless you actually add all the assets that would make the unique minor races actually be those minor races, it would be pointless. That's a lot of assets that wouldn't be available somewhere else.

 

4 can be done with abilities. It's a simple ownership switch as long as the building doesn't have research locked functions. This one might even be a good idea, but there would have to be care taken in setting it up. Being able to flip ownership willy nilly would really hose things.

 

A planet based buff might could be used to trigger an interrupt on ship based takeover abilities, flipping them on planet acquisition would probably work too. In any case, I could pull it off in a reasonable fashion. By the time you're playing conquest it's the work of a moment to replace them though. Would require quite the structure overhaul to really make it worthwhile. Capacity is your limiting factor by the time you're in a position to conquer fortified planets, not cost. If a factory were a long and arduous thing to aquire, capturing one would be a real good idea, but they build just as fast as they blow up, and cost next to nothing when you're blowing up ten times their resources in ships every time you turn around.

1 sounds really neat to implement in a way that if you conquer them you get what they have. Nothing too fancy, but some planetary bonues or units/structures.

2. It would be nice if there was an option to reveal all the planets. Not whats in them, just where every one of them are.

3. Now this is a great idea, though it should be an upgrade/reasearch as most of the newer starfighter designs were fielded on older ships as well. I never got the E-Wing though. an X sounds more powerful than E

4. While this wouldn't sound realistic, you can make it so taking over a planet requires longer time than bombing it. That way you can either blow away the opponent before reinforcements arrive, or try to overtake the planet at risk of a backup force arriving.

agreed thinking about no5 more it is a naff idea and wouldnt work on the map im making very well either. the 2nd idea about fog of war is the main thing I would like to get around, I found a line in the player*name*.entity file regarding it and have tried deleting the line out but it doesnt seem to have effect, the game still runs ok though. There must be a way around it as correct me if im wrong but dont the pirates know where your planets are ? (ie when a pirate raid or bounty is placed) wasnt there a long range scanners research somewhere ? *runs of to look*
