The NR and vong factions are in a WIP state, go play with them, report bugs and give feedback! They need a lot of work to get them on par with the other factiosn and gettign icons and the like worked out!

Look at the unit image files. They are pretty straightforward, but will need to edit the brushes file to map to the correct location

I'd start on it myself, but my gaming machine is down and needs repairs

I realise they are WIP, and am thus unsure whether to report it as a bug, but is the M60 model unfinished? The central body is invisible for me, I just get the hangar and other 'doodads'.

Probably. I suggest reporting model bugs anyway... at least you'll know they're being tracked

Stuff like research not implemented, icons not correct, etc... those will be fixed during development

NR as a playable party isn't all that interesting looking to me. Most of the caps aren't that jaw-dropping gorgeous. Never been much a fan of the Mon-Calamari design philosophy.

As a side to play with, NR players have access to the biggest, baddest sup-cap ships from the start. No research needed for the biggest ships, aside from a raise in pop cap.

I haven't noted down the figures yet, or ships that need work, but I can surely say the biggest ship in the NR fleet needs some coloration to it. Once it rolls off the assembly line it's just a huge white blob travelling the space lanes.

I think the reason for it being a huge white blob is that it isn't textured yet :)

I play NR just for the MC90's and Nebulas, personally.

I had assumed that no research was required because the tech tree hasn't been done yet - I can't see their super caps being research-free in the final NR release!

I just got the beta version working, and played for a little while as New Republic. I wrote down some notes as I played about the more glaring issues.

New Republic:

1. Capital ships have very low attack. The MC-90 has less attack power than a Dreadnaught. With a MC-90 vs a fleet of 3 Dreadnaughts, 2 Carrack Cruisers, and a Lancer, I was only able to take out 1 Lancer and 1 Carrack Cruiser. With the first capital ship for both Empire and Alliance, that fleet would be easy to destroy.

2. Missiles move slower than the ships. On several occasions, I had my Bothan Assault Cruiser and Nebula SD fire a salvo of missiles, and then shoot right past them. Missiles need to have their speed increased.

3. Research not needed for ships. I know this was mentioned earlier, just thought I would add it to my list.

4. Heavy Ion Volley on Nebula SD does not require ion cannon research.

5. Capital ships are not chosen as flagship over cruisers. When you make a group, it centers in on lower class ships such as cruisers and frigates. A specific example I found was a Nebula SD chosen over Rejuvenator.

6. Viscount fires all guns from center of ship.

7. Viscount has no texture.

8. Several String Not Found Research topics

That's all I have for now, I'll add some more as I play.

Vong:

1. All ships list that they produce X-wings in the fighter menu.

2. There is no player icon for any Vong structure, planet, or ships.

3. Fighters are named “String not found”

4. The Matalok does not seem to be textured.

5. Sh’rip Sh’pa is not textured.

6. The Sh’rp Sh’pa shoots its colonization thingies the wrong way.

7. The Miid Roik often throws ships way outside the gravity well of the planet.

8. The Gunship Analogue does not seem to be fully textured.

9. Several String Not Found research topics.

10. The Battleship has several transparent holes on the right and bottom sides.

11. Much like the New Republic, the attack power on most Vong ships is rather underwhelming. The only capital ship that has any firepower worth mentioning is the Miid Roik. I had a battle where my Battleship Analogue was unable to kill a small fleet of pirate ships (about 12) after I watched them for about 15-20 minutes. I then jumped in a Miid Roik, and they got massacred in a couple minutes. For a ship that costs almost 2/3 as much as an Executor, that is rather pathetic. I don’t really know whether I should trust the attack values listed, but the best capital ship they have to offer should have a lot more than 35 attack before the upgrades.

Overall, I don’t really like the Vong, even when using them as the bad guys to beat up on (which is very easy with any faction other than NR). Many of them don’t even look like ships, which I guess is how they described them in the books, but some of the ships (Battleship Analogue, Sh’rip Sh’pa just look boring). I know that they are a completely new faction, and they are very much a work in progress, however, so I’m willing to bet they will improve a lot before they are released. I really like the Miid Roik. If that is how the ships will look when they are finished, I will not have a problem.

Also, I’m hoping that the NR and Vong have such low firepower because they are such new additions. Against each other, they’re fairly balanced, as both have very low offensive power. Against CIS, Empire, Alliance, Republic, and even the pirate ships, though, they pretty much get destroyed.

I’m sure you are aware of most of these issues, I’m just pointing them out to make a list of sorts. I think you guys are doing a great job with this beta version!

Balance, textures, icons, research, strings... all correctable. Just takes time.

I know I've been busy, I'm sure Eville is too.

Anyone with time, want to help?

I have some time, and I would really like to help out, but I have no idea how to mod this stuff. If you could tell me what programs to use to edit the files, or just give me a link I would be happy to help.

Besides the models, Notepad (I recommend Notepad++ or other full featured code editor) & Sins modding forums

Still fiddling with bits and pieces of 2D art, been a busy week though, so I haven't had much time. I've been looking at effective ways to give the front-end GUI a star wars feel, I was thinking perhaps of basing it around the various displays from episodes 1-3.

I wonder what you calculate damage/hp/shield/speed etc from? is it taken from some official star wars ship stats in converted form or are you just tossing in some numbers that suits fluff? Maybe i could lend a hand with some simple stat editing.

Eville has a pretty complicated spreadsheet. I'm sure its derived from what is known in canon and others extrapolated based on where ships should follow from other ships.
