Pleeeease help with lag ingame :(

I've enjoed this game since early 2000, but with my new pc it's a pain. Gameplay starts OK without or thru Rebed but when you try to issue a command or even adjust the time speed passing the game falls into some kind of terrible lag(sometimes up to 3 mins). Please advise, cause I'm missing my game. I'm runnung AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4200+, 2.19Ghz, 1gb ram. Video is NVIDIA GeForce 8600GT

This is an old game, I had the same problem on my new laptop. Tried everything, ended up turning off my video card under device manager, restart, works just fine. It's a pain each time I wanna play, but works flawless now.
