Bruja Posted October 27, 2009 Posted October 27, 2009 And E? While I smirked at your joke, I'm a Psych major. We know better than to believe in subliminal messages. I'm disturbed that society as a whole can't understand they don't work. You just can't resist the urge, can you? Next you'll be educating us on the difference between a psychopath and a sociopath. And now, for something completely different! The Care Bear Stare cures cancer now!
Master_Xan Posted October 27, 2009 Author Posted October 27, 2009 Come Mitth, you should be aware that society as a whole believes many false things. For instance, during the middle ages, everyone DID NOT believe the world was flat. Gasoline is not flammable, the vapor is. And you CAN hold liquid nitrogen in the palm of your hand without injury (just don't close your fist!). Oh, and bullets do NOT go through water. Star Wars: Rebellion, A Field Manual"O be wise, what can I say more?"
DarthTex Posted November 2, 2009 Posted November 2, 2009 Oh, and bullets do NOT go through water.Sure they do. Haven't you been watching Mythbusters? Oh, sorry ... you missed the last two years of TV. It depends on the gun and bullet actually, plus you can fire underwater (assuming your bullets didn't let water get it, which they usually don't). There is a difference between shooting INTO water, and shooting WHILE underwater. Finally, after years of hard work I am the Supreme Sith Warlord! Muwhahahaha!! What?? What do you mean "there's only two of us"?
Master_Xan Posted November 2, 2009 Author Posted November 2, 2009 Actually, I have seen that Mythbusters. Firing into water doesn't work so well. I don't remember one about firing while underwater... I imagine it would work better than firing into water, but still not well. Am I right? Star Wars: Rebellion, A Field Manual"O be wise, what can I say more?"
Mad78 Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 Well admitedly you could aim better at someone who is underwater if you too were underwater so you would be more likely to cause damage. Even if the bullets were less powerful. http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a359/Mad78/Palpycard.gifhttp://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a359/Mad78/Spamkinguserbarcopy.jpgCLICK HERE IT IS VERY IMPORTANT!!!Click here is you like Trance
DarthTex Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 Actually, I have seen that Mythbusters. Firing into water doesn't work so well. I don't remember one about firing while underwater... I imagine it would work better than firing into water, but still not well. Am I right? From what I recall, shooting a pistol at the water works, but not for rifles (the faster velocity of the rifle bullet actually causes it to shatter on impact, but not so with the slower pistol shot). Shooting underwater does work, to a degree (automatics are NOT automatic anymore ). A pistol (automatic or revolver) can cause damage if shot at point blank range (within 1 inch or less; actually contact works best). A rifle has an effective range of 8-10 feet maximum. Spearguns still seem to work best though Finally, after years of hard work I am the Supreme Sith Warlord! Muwhahahaha!! What?? What do you mean "there's only two of us"?
Mad78 Posted November 12, 2009 Posted November 12, 2009 Good! Next time I go diving I'll be sure to take my speargun instead of my rifle! http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a359/Mad78/Palpycard.gifhttp://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a359/Mad78/Spamkinguserbarcopy.jpgCLICK HERE IT IS VERY IMPORTANT!!!Click here is you like Trance
DarthTofu Posted November 12, 2009 Posted November 12, 2009 Heh- I had a Differential Equations test that involved James Bond jumping into the water and being shot at. If I hadn't seen my Mythbusters, I would've been much more doubtful of my answer that James only had to dive down about a foot underwater for the bullets to be moving at an insufficient speed to kill him. 12/14/07Nu kyr'adyc, shi taab'echaaj'la Not gone, merely marching far away
Master_Xan Posted November 12, 2009 Author Posted November 12, 2009 Isn't math fun? Although knowing things like this make me frustrated when I see movies like Italian Job (towards the beginning, one guy fires automatic rounds from what looks like an AK-47 into a lake... and they definitely don't break up on impact as they should). Star Wars: Rebellion, A Field Manual"O be wise, what can I say more?"
Mad78 Posted November 13, 2009 Posted November 13, 2009 Its Hollywood! Cut them some slack. Plus that was actually a pretty good movie. http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a359/Mad78/Palpycard.gifhttp://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a359/Mad78/Spamkinguserbarcopy.jpgCLICK HERE IT IS VERY IMPORTANT!!!Click here is you like Trance
Master_Xan Posted November 15, 2009 Author Posted November 15, 2009 Yeah, long ago I discovered that to enjoy many movies, I have to ignore the inconsistencies and inaccuracies. Otherwise, I spend the whole time criticizing. But ignoring those things, I can enjoy Italian Job, Ocean's Eleven, Fast and Furious, Star Wars, and dozens of other horribly impossible movies! Star Wars: Rebellion, A Field Manual"O be wise, what can I say more?"
DarthTofu Posted November 15, 2009 Posted November 15, 2009 Casino Royal was kind enough to be mostly plausible. Bond at least sweated and bled, unlike other movies where he was all but invincible, and phased by nothing. Quantum of Solace was something of a different tale... 12/14/07Nu kyr'adyc, shi taab'echaaj'la Not gone, merely marching far away
Darth_Rob Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 Sorry for the long absence guys. Its been quite hectic around here. Ive been student teaching at a high school full time (teaching two AP classes and two "remedial" classes), so basically I pay my school $10,000 to do someones elses job while they sit back and relax. On top of that I am taking 13 credits at the college, so thats where most of my time has gone. Any time in between has been devoted to planning our upcoming wedding in May. However, today is my last actual day of student teaching. Starting tomorrow, we transition control of the class back to the teacher, and I get to sit back and relax for the next week. I can use this time to finalize all my college work, as well as start working on a resume and portfolio so I can start looking for a job after I graduate and get certified (graduate on Dec. 6, certification from the state should come by mid-January). Now that things are getting back to normal, I will be around here, trying to catch up. I missed goofing off around here...its good to be back! BadSamaritan Posted November 29, 2009 Posted November 29, 2009 *appears from the mist* I stopped working on my story, so I don't have much to post about. I do lurk, however. And now you have your answer. *vanishes into the mist once again* I once knew a great man. Nothing got to him, and he always smiled. May he forever rest in peace, knowing fully well that his freinds shall remember him.
