I am furious... (Avatar:) The Last Airbender movie

I didn't know any of the details about this movie, only hearing in passing about the Avatar show and the "Aing isn't white" movement. But now reading it, it makes me furious. I'm not one to throw around the word "racism" left and right, but the obvious casting call sheets, the ethnic extras casting, and even the stripping of the chinese characters... it comes off as deliberate whitewashing.

 

Hollywood and this production company have taken the Asian culture of this series and destroyed it. I am planning on boycotting this movie now.

What did you expect? M. Night Shyamalan is doing the movie. Not exactly my first choice for directing in a fantasy setting. I wonder if he'd even heard of Avatar before getting involved in the project?

 

BTW, I saw a trailer for it when I saw the new GI Joe movie (trailers a year before the movie comes out? o.O ) The trailer looked cool enough, but didn't really show much of anything. Not even his face; I didn't know until now about the casting stuff. This is why I'm glad Orson Scott Card is in control of his movie project; the first director he tried to get for an Ender's Game movie was going to cast all white people, but OSCard fired the director first and tabled the project.

 

If it's going to be done, it should be done right. Looks like the Avatar movie crew don't agree with that philosophy.

I had never heard of Avatar until I saw the trailer for the movie. It seems interesting enough to me, but I had no idea it was based on previous works.
