This is a sample of what I'm working on. I've played with a number of designs, including colouring the ships vs having a background logo in the color of the faction. I like this one, but any thoughts appreciated.

Ooh I like the detail. Are these the same size as the originals?

I don't like some of them being cutoff (esp that Escort Carrier), some of the angles make the ship look squished (esp that Nebulon-B).. but I think just things to tweak

No, I downsized this cut 'n' paste so as it didn't explode browsers. The original is 2048 pixels wide.

 

I tried to get the ships on an angle, which unfortunately gave the Neb-B a pinched look due to it's size.

 

I will look at downsizing the escort carrier so that it isn't so cut-off.

Here's a little weekend present.

 

SOGE_Imperials.rar

 

Contains a new brushes and DDS texture, along with edited GameInfo entity files (so copy/backup your SOGE mod folder before extracting). Unzip the RAR file into the mod directory.

 

I have done appropriate graphics for freighters, refinery ships and worker ships, but I believe ATM the moment they are shared entities between the factions (I could be wrong :P), so if we want faction-specific images for them, we'll need individual entities.

The background can be whatever we want. I can colour the ships, rather than give them a faction coloured glow. We can replace the planet background with faction symbols, such as we have above. I can also look at removing the in-game gloss texture for the HUD picture.

 

Going to start work on the Alliance now.

I like Option 2 or Option 4. Option 2 doesn't look fantastic here but does look quite good in-game.

Hey, just to let you know I've been slowly working my way through the Rebellion and hope to have a hud-set ready by the end of the weekend.

 

I'll also provide appropriate ZIPs for both the Empire and Rebellion and people can try them out in-game.

I'm pretty close to coming out with a new test version that shouldn't minidump (hopefully) I'd like to put these into that version, I'll try to catch you on MSN to see if you've made any progress on the rebels

God I hate working for a newly merged investment and superannuation company some times. Since posting 3 weeks ago that I was working on the Rebellion, I have spent all of 1 day at home :( So these have suffered a small setback. I have got this week at home so I want to spend some time getting things going again.

I'm feeling really bad now...I promised a release a month ago and delivered nothing :( Granted I haven't even fired up the game for entertainment either. The fun of being lead developer on a multi-million dollar trading engine project that is being built from scratch.

 

Gonna see what I can do...I haven't abandoned the project :P

Ok, first off the production line: Imps and Alliance.

 

Alliance is missing the following because I can't generate them (or wrong textures) due to research issues:

 

- A-wing (can't unlock them)

- Y-wing (Y-wing has B-wing mesh)

- Independence

- Mon Remonda

- CC-7700

- Assault Frigate Mk II

- Liberator Cruiser

 

Also, at the moment, the factions share the same trade, refinery and worker ships. I have the images prepped, but obviously need new entity entries for each faction.

You may need to revert to a older revision, I'm sure the research issues weren't a problem until Eville did some recent refactoring

 

Wondering if the ships can retain some of their texture detail, as a map of gray ships is rather uninteresting. I really expect ships like the Corellian Gunship and the Assault Gunboat to have their characteristic colors

There we go.

 

All working in the zip for the Imperials. Tried to revert to an older version for the Rebs but got CTD too many times so I'll fix the remainder of the Rebels when their research works.

 

Tomorrow I'll do the Republic and CIS.
