Sins of a Galactic Empire 0.9 Release

 

works with 1.15+

 

 

this will be the last major release for non-entrenchment games, I am working on a way to patch non-entrenchment files, but no guarantees that everything will make it.

 

currently does not work with entrenchment

Lots of thanks goes out to Pedro Laracuente for working on remastering the old Tie fighter and dark forces midis as well as a few tracks from the OT

(more tracks are forthcoming and they are continuing to be tweaked)

Extract 7z file to your C:\Documents and settings\\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Mods\\ path

(Vista is slightly diffrent, I think it is C:\users\\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Mods\)

 

in game select the mod from the mod options panel and click load at start up, if it doesn't show up then check your path again (go to the ironclad forums for this http://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/forum/443)

the ships that will have broken textures are the following

 

CIS

 

malevolence, geonosian dreadnaught, adv trafed destroyer

 

the acclmator II, cc-2200 and victory II will share the meshes with their other variants, but will have different stats

 

some fighter meshes are still not implemented

 

some effects are too large or too small

 

there are some issues with the research tree, it was a last minute add, the important things work

 

some descriptions for ships or research may be wrong or non-sensical

 

some textures are unfinished, this will be fixed in the future

 

 

 

 

 

 

some ships may have abilities that don't work very well, please report issues with these

 

balance may be off, it hasn't been tested extensively yet, if something is very over/under powered please report it.

Man if you're so used to the scale of regular Sins, every unit now is a lot smaller. It's different.. more zooming in to see the goodies

 

Mmm is the box around the ship shields? Or a graphical glitch?

 

Need a spellcheck on those descriptions too

First - I am impressed so far. But SOGE is clearly still a work in progress. So mostly I am posting criticism - constructively, I hope.

I'm not sure about the scale change. At least it might be too severe. Star wars had bigass warships blowing eachother up at improbably close range, yes? SINS had that, but in SOGE ships trade fire at long range. *shrug*

 

Bombing is very powerful. Is this intended? A handful of Dreadnoughts can ravage a world in short order. See: Pirates. ;)

 

Firepower in general is very high, actually. At least at the low end. SOGE ships will ravage SINS ships that have similar shielding levels. Fights end very quickly as well.

 

The spam-ships (frigates and cruisers) should not have so many abilities. Or at least, not so many abilities that need management. Too much micromanagement, and fights are so fast that you'll never be able to hit the buttons.

 

Something kills my capital ships very quickly. I can't tell what it is. I believe it's the Broadside Missile Frigate.

Unfortunately I have to agree with Shoe. I ain't likin' the scale change in the ships, but also the orbits. Love all the work you've done with the mod, though, so don't get me wrong. I know, and as you said, that it's a pain in the ass to rescale but the way it is right now is just not right. You zoom out even a moderate distance and they become dots on your screen, you try to zoom in and you can't the same depth of field that makes everything epic as it did before. People used to complain about the ships being too big and all, especially ones like the SSD, yet I don't think the answer was to make the ships themselves smaller but make the planets bigger. If it was that case, then yeah, leave the orbit sizes larger because it's required when making the planets larger too. I hate being critical, as I love this mod, just it gnaws at me every time I start a game.

I think a lot of the scale shock is because of two factors

 

1) the scale of the ships changed by 5 times, it will take a bit of getting used to, but think about this, the ISD didn't fit in the capital construction facility before, and the largest sins ships were around 2 km long, just to make them manageable the larger ships needed to be very close to this maximum value. So in effect it may not look as big, but it is in fact a lot bigger, the gravity wells are effectively 10x bigger!

 

2) the effects and sounds and everything that are from the base game are all still the same scale, as I start fixing the effects it makes a huge difference (basically everything else is 5x too big :-P)

the vindicator is the same as the enforcer, just different weapons, the trafed carrier is in stark hyperspace war and the victor II is in battlefront II I think, other than that everything else is a guess

The Imperial Star Destroyers are tiny tiny tiny tiny tiny tiny by comparison to the Mon Calamari Cruisers. They should be slightly larger than the MC-80. Right now, they are about 1/3 the size.

Does this mean you dont have descriptions of the ships? I can help with some of them if that is the case. I got a book titled "The Ultimate Guide to Vehicles and Vessels", which was published in 1996 by Lucasfilms Ltd

I tried to use it, but after editing from the template, it was the only thing i saw. If i went and clicked on an entry for some other ship, i still only saw what i had written in the template. Now i cant be sure if i wrecked the template or somehow overwrote everything or what. not user friendly. Look up the Esseles Class Space Station if you can, that is what i tried to add.

You should copy the template into an article with the name of your ship

 

In this case, I suggest not using Class as it is pretty redundant. Actually, a space station may not fall into our category either, unless it is mobile space station. I have to think about this..

 

At any rate, if you put the technical details of the ships from the source books, that is fine. If you take entire text verbatim from them, it's probably not allowed. Please summarize or write in your own words
