Rebellion on Vista - Space Combat Crashes - Pattern?

Hi All,

 

I am running Supremacy 1.01 on Vista Home Premium. The missing direct draw dll is stored in the Supremacy folder and the Supremacy .exe is run under Vista's Win 98 emulation with admin rights and 256 colour mode.

 

It seems that the 3D space combat crashes the entire supremacy app on completion of combat roughly every 8 combat sessions. Has anyone else noticed this pattern? Is it a memory leak or something similar that would account for the pattern? Other than this, the game runs very well indeed.

I haven't really noticed a pattern when i play, but its probably because i run it under windows 98 in virtual pc. its been a while, but i do seem to recall the game crashing after battles sometimes when i ran it in straight vista.

 

i am curious though. In your copy do you have troubles skipping the intro speeches or seeing ships in the combat portions of the game? mainly im curious to see if this is only a problem with the us version or if it happens to the euro version too.

I can't skip the intro speeches. I can always see the ships in the combat portion even when two huge fleets are involved.

I seem to recall having similar issues, though not with Vista. If I recall, it had to do with my graphics drivers; they were fully up to date, but something about the version I was using didn't play nice with Rebellion. Mine was crashing about 1 in 4 combat sessions, so I went to more effort to root out the cause. Rolled back to an earlier version, and bingo! Later when a new driver came out, I upgraded and didn't have the problem.

 

Try updating your graphics and sound drivers, if they aren't already. If they are, you can try an earlier version, though it may be a different problem with Vista.
