Right, as it is, there's no option for planetary assaults (the storming of a planet and capturing with infrastructure mostly intact); the only way to conquer a planet is to bomb it out of existence, then colonize. Since this seems a mite silly in the realm of Star Wars--base delta zeros were used, but not on every single planet--, I was wondering if there might be a way to implement an alternative method of planetary capture.

It still requires the obliteration of all life on a planet before you can 'invade' (read: 'colonize'), unless I've missed something significant.

So, we have the main game, which had a lot of depth in managing ships, assembling balanced armadas, and leveling capital ships. Then we have Entrenchment, which adds to the effectiveness of defenses and puts in starbases, which allow you to hold stars and other objectives that you used to either leave garrison fleets or leave alone.Next, Diplomacy will add in, well, extended Diplomacy options through Envoy ships, etc. What's left?

 

I expect Invasion will be the next expansion pack, and it will bring in a host of new planetary abilities, as well as ground forces.

Well there won't be a 3rd micro-expansion. So either its a full expansion or possibly a sequel. I would love to see some planetary assaults, that would be nice... but not as a separate ground mode (ala Empire at War)

So there won't be... I coulda sworn there was supposed to be three micro-expansions.

 

I was not a fan of EaW, so I'm with you there. However, I don't think Stardock's finished with SoaSE, not by a longshot.
