Freeze @ Universe

Recommended Posts

hey guys, i need a brain to help me, cause i dont know how to go on...

-I installed HW2

-Patched it to 1.1

-downloaded all 8 files from the latest files tab at your site

-put the 7 .Big fiels and the readme.txt in the hw2\data ordner

-wrote the additional target line from the site (more files than i have??)

-tried to start -> crash at universe at ca. 35%

-put just the files i actually have in the target line

-tried a skirm (have much more fractions available now)

-freeze at Universe at ca. 35%

i tried although with a new profile.....didnt work ;(

without the mod it runs great.....

here is the errorlog....

first off, just do a copy and paste here to show us what your command line is. the only .big file that is really optional is the OLDSHIPS.Big, you need all the others. then, let us know what the settings for the skirmish game were. if you had an imperial cpu player, that is likely the problem.

i had a system crash (not because the mod x) but my partition is gone sfc!

dont know the command line from my mind, but the last one i had was just with the 7files i had, do i need more than 7 files?

cause in another poll a C&P command line was with the files IMPHOS.Big,REBHOS.Big etc.

when i have enough nerves to reload the mod and install it again ill contact via forum again when i have probs, but thanks so far from germany, great communitiy =)

i posted this in another thread on this site. its a breakdown of the command line

the first part of the shortcut should look like this, INCLUDING QUOTES

"C:\Program Files\Sierra\Homeworld2\Bin\Release\Homeworld2.exe"

there is then a space, then:

-mod PLANETPACK.BIG,SWSOUND.BIG,SWMUSIC.BIG,GENHODS.BIG,SHIPHODS.BIG,CORE.BIG,OLDSHIPS.BIG -luatrace -hardwarecursor

there are spaces before the - in luatrace and hardware cursor.

"C:\Program Files\Sierra\Homeworld2\Bin\Release\Homeworld2.exe" -mod PLANETPACK.BIG,SWSOUND.BIG,SWMUSIC.BIG,GENHODS.BIG,SHIPHODS.BIG,CORE.BIG,OLDSHIPS.BIG -luatrace -hardwarecursor

that should work, copy and paste. if c&p doesnt work, type it in manually, exactly as it appears, the .BIG files need to be in that order. kind of a pain, but its worth it

Edit: if you have never played a warlords mod before, and want everyhing to work the same, remove the OLDSHIPS.BIG from the command line. this file adds in more ships from previous versions that have not been completely converted to 0.6. the game still works and is playable, but the older ships are much more vulnerable than the ones that have been converted.

OK, here i am again ^^ i couldn't wait longer and so installed (or tried to install) ur Mod

i put the 7 *.Big files into the data directory, made a new desktop link an C&P'd ur command line

"C:\Programme\Sierra\Homeworld2\Bin\Release\Homeworld2.exe -mod PLANETPACK.BIG,SWSOUND.BIG,SWMUSIC.BIG,GENHODS.BIG,SHIPHODS.BIG,CORE.BIG,OLDSHIPS.BIG -luatrace -hardwarecursor" thats it

i chose the Republic VS a CIS enemy, i made some settings in RU injection and unit limit and then i wanted to start, but freeze @ universe, too.

i tried even without the OLDSHIPS.Big but the same effect ..... is it why im german? xD

P.S. what "other" log file? i have one *txt file every crashdate and one *.dmp file every crashdate. how to post a file i cant open?

my only suggestion at this point then would be to run the game in english and see if tht works. but in the log you posted, it doesnt say that there was a crash, it looks like it loaded just fine. just try the game in english to see if that works. if it does, then the german.big is the issue

Hi,

I have exactly the same problem and specs as meddelertobi, except I have the english.big file, so it's not that.

I was wondering if it has something to do with dual core of some brand or anything hardware related ?

Also, strange things happen, like the main menu looks just like the normal HW2 menu. And when I delete the old music.big file, I won't hear the SW music on the main menu.

Here's my log. it doesn't say there's a crash but it crashes still. I don't understand, it used to work on my machine...

Also, I have all the original HW2 .big files in the Data folder, because when I try to get rid of them, the game won't launch (at least that's true for english.big and Homeworld2.big)

For one thing, Montaz, you're not using the right version of Warlords. Go to the main warlords page, click "latest version" and download everything in there, there are 7 bigs (oldships.big is optional) and 1 readme. THAT IS THE LATEST VERSION OF WARLORDS.

-----DO NOT DOWNLOAD ANY FILES OUT OF THE ARCHIVES THEY ARE OUT OF DATE------

Follow the instructions in the readme from there for installation. You don't NEED an english.big and the one that you have is out of date to boot. You also don't have to delete the original HW2 big files. Matter of fact, it's probably best if you leave them alone. There are several things I see wrong in the log you posted, but they should be solved by following the above.

Meddelertobi, try removing the german.big   It looks like you've got the right files, that's the only one that's different.

"UTIL -- filepath failure, path doesn't exists 'C:\PROGRA~1\Sierra\HOMEWO~1\data\locale\german' "

It says that  second line from the top in your last post. Remove german.big.   Make sure everything's installed properly and in the right directories. Also it's making references to the hoth level at the end, don't put any of that in the command line or mess with the single player campaign for now. Remove any references to that you're making and try the skirmishes then.

Thanks harvey032186 it works, at least in skirmish, but I don't understand...

I just re re re did exactly the same procedure (files from "latest version", clean install, patch etc) and this time it worked, murphy's law strikes again.

Only thing is SW musics won't play, I guess it's because I deleted the old "music.Big" file.

I am going to try multi

I was briefly confused by the music, too at first. When starting a game, scroll down the list till you see "random music" or something to that effect and tell it yes, otherwise it runs through HW2 music in sequence. THAT prob at least I know exactly :) As for why it started working, since you say those WERE current bigs, I notice on closer inspection you don't have GENHODS.big loading. You should have at least 6 files loaded, and you only 5 (+1 English.big)  And having an out of date file like the english.big would possibly cause a crash too, so just removing that was a step in the right direction. Thanks again, I tried Multi and it worked after countless efforts.

First I had to put the original music.Big in order to have the SW music during the menu, then (just as Evillejedi said in another post) I had to have 2 EXACTLY identical Homeworld2 folders for the 2 different pc. After that I had a "unavalaible network" issue, which I solved by re-registering a direct play dll.

Then I wasn't able to see any game on LAN on any of the 2 machines, so I launched Hamachi which did nothing.

Finally I tried TCP/IP and it worked !

Didn't have the slightest bit of lag.

Whats odd though is that I still have all the originals HW2 .big files in the folder, and in player VS cpu it makes me laggy. So I tried deleting random HW2 .big files to improve gaming and it works. Only thing is I have to delete them on my other pc if i want multi to works.

God this mod is hard to get to run, but the satisfaction is immense afterwards.

No, when I play Vs cpu, the cpu is whatever I want him to be, usually Alliance (I read on the forums the game would crash if I were to try and play angainst an Empire cpu).

It's really a shame that descriptions of the ships have been deleted, it was kind of helpful.

I noticed some new features that I don't understand:

In game mode, what is "scenarios" ? what is "OFFLINE ONLY" ?

In starting fleet what is "Custom" ? And  what does "None" do ?

What are "carriers processed", "auto fighters", "fighters spawn delay" ?

What use are the NO FLARE maps ? What is CIS faction ?

And finally, are there any maps I should avoid while playing vs cpu and/or vs human, because I think Mon Calamari crashes the game. Do you have an advice regarding the best map for 1v1 in multiplayer ?

Is this the right place to ask this kind of question, becaue I looked on the site an in the readme but there's no such thing as a manual.

Thanks again everyone, especially Evillejedi

Alright, the first part about the imps. If you start the skirmish with an Imp CPU player, it will crash. HOWEVER, if you start as Imp, then start another game with CPU Imp it will be fine. N/S why, but it works.

Ship descriptions are being redone, so the old ones are no good anyway.

Scenarios is exactly what it sounds like. Pre-made scenarios with specific ships, etc. It's self-explanatory. Look down the map list and you'll see some of the options. The Fighter Spawn thing is a script to make managing capital ships easier, when enemy ships are nearby it every so often spawns a squadron or two, this feature currently only works in scenarios mode.

Not sure what "OFFLINE ONLY" is, I personally haven't noticed any differences.

Light flares, when you look at a star or what not, the special effect light flare.

Confederacy of Independent Systems. The Trade Federation, Technounion, and other Separatist factions from Ep3 (and yes the alliance is really called that"

There aren't any probs that I know of with the Mon Cal. For the most part, there aren't any bugs in this mod except ones relating to incomplete ships/game mechanics. Side effect of the mod not being done yet.

There's no manual yet, I believe there's one in the works. So yes, this is the right place to ask your questions :)

As for maps... it depends on your preference. I like really large maps, and the Cron Drift and Hunting Fields are two of my favorites. The Drift is pretty cool, be sure and take a look :) Smaller maps... I really don't know. Most of the smaller maps are TOO small and when I see that it's such I just load another. The ships fire too far and travel to fast for a lot of the smaller maps and are too big for that matter.

I don't know if you're using oldships.big  There are a lot of really cool ships in it, but they haven't been converted to the new weapon and hardpoint standards yet, so they can be somewhat difficult. Like easily disabled.... or completely unarmed.... or any other number of odd things. If you use it, expect Imperial CPUs to build a flotilla of MSH. In order to fix it, you have to extract the big and modify the appropriate file, so you'll need a bit of mod skill or inclination. Currently there isn't a fix for this for download, though it'll be addressed in the next version. I'm assuming. As will a number of other problems.

Ok, well thanks for everything !

I'm about to test oldships cause I loved those of 0.45. Does this file includes the Clone War era ships, or are they in the 0.50 already. Cause I remember seeing the Venator and the ancestor of the tie Fighter, but there has to be more than these, right ?

One thing: What's the difference between the ships in 0.45 and 0.50, weapons wise. I noticed they were now more frequently disarmed, and you can't highlight them when browsing the hull of a ship. Is this the only modification, because I remember Evillejedi saying the mass of ships weapons in the battle was making the 0.45 laggy.

Oh well, I'm off for a game. I wish the chat wasn't so desperately empty, I want to play online.

i never noticed any lag with the .45 version, but my comp is also way overpowered for a game this old anyway. the issue was a combination of too many weapons and shields, so in .6 the weaps and shields were done away with, and the hull recharge rate was jacked up to compensate. this pretty much means that .45 ships are useless against .6 ships, because they get all their weaps fried right away.

Yep, I just noticed that.

I noticed that just like in 0.45, the mole miners sometimes get stuck in mining ships after unloading an ore load.

And in the Cron Drift map, there are huge asteroids, some considered exploitable by mole miners and some not, but when you ask an mole to harvest it, it goes by it, and stops moving.

Also I had several negative amount of RU showing up when highlighting a cluster of RU.

Are these, related to their respective maps, or general bugs ?

One other I'd like to know is what you advise me to put, as far a game settings and map are concerned if I want to play 1v1 with a friend for a long 0.60 game. I want to be able to count on ressources more than injection.

Thank you

all large asteroids are bugged for docking (someone want to fix this in CFhod or somehting?)

-RU s is an annoying bug I can't seem to squash
