driftwood Posted September 7, 2003 Posted September 7, 2003 hihow do you convert the .x file for a ship into something you can see in a modeling program? I read Mask's tutorial... and got as far as extracting the file and saving it as a biniary .x file....but I can't go any further. Any suggestions?
driftwood Posted September 9, 2003 Author Posted September 9, 2003 okay, I found I can view the extracted *.x model with the D3D viewer ( the Lith Unwrap won't open the file) By the way, this is the first time I've done anything like this and I'm putting it all down here in case there are other people wondering how to do this. How to use the d3d viewer (from the Mask's site...thank you Mask ): When you open the viewer, you get a Microsoft logo spinning slowly. Left click on it, then open edit and select delete. The logo prevents you from seeing your ship file. Then go to file and select "open mesh", select your extracted ship file. Now you should get a blob in the centre ofthe screen. Left click on it, and press the Z key lightly.....this will zoom the picture, the X key will make it smaller. Click and dragging with the left mouse button will rotate the pic, the same procedure with the right button will drag the pic around the screen. Open the Renderer option and select "wireframe" to get a wireframe model (yes, I'm stating the bloody obvious ). Also in the Renderer options is "Lighting". Uncheck it to get a brighter model. Now I got to figure out how I can import these pics to a 3D program (in my case, Lightwave)....any suggestions? btw, to all those who made it possible to edit models: thank you and especially to Mask with providing the tools and how to's.
driftwood Posted September 9, 2003 Author Posted September 9, 2003 I'm going to try gmax...it might be easier to import the pic and it seems that what most ppl are using...
the_mask Posted September 9, 2003 Posted September 9, 2003 Well, Lith should be able to open it, weird. You can also try Milkshape 3D and 3D Exploration, although they're shareware. http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/5183/animated9pn.gifhttp://img146.imageshack.us/img146/1778/reloadedbannerdu8.gifhttp://www.swrebellion.com/images/banners/rebellionbanner02or6.gif
driftwood Posted September 10, 2003 Author Posted September 10, 2003 With Lith, I keep getting a message saying it requires a directX 8.0 HAL device. but, I didn't d/l it from your site...... the link is down.
the_mask Posted September 11, 2003 Posted September 11, 2003 Hmm, your're sure that your gfx card is selected in Lith's preferences ? Oops, gotta fix that link, among a few others http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/5183/animated9pn.gifhttp://img146.imageshack.us/img146/1778/reloadedbannerdu8.gifhttp://www.swrebellion.com/images/banners/rebellionbanner02or6.gif
