EaW:FoC - Birth of an Empire (Mod Idea)

Well I remember going on about EaW 2 and what people would like to see from it so I thought I'd borrow it that idea switching it into a mod idea.

 

Brief Summary:

Galactic Conquest:

 

You choose which Star Wars faction/empire and start its birth from a single hero (with maybe a few guards). The way the factions would form depend on the factions themselves and how you recruit and build them. Your hero and units will gain money from each kill so less could be focused on buildings at first and more so on seeing how you want to form your Empire. When you get settled in you can start building structures to help you and become more stationary while other factions focus on their own business (if possible). The more area you conquer (or kill) the more your faction will grow unless you want to sit back and build your economy to defend yourself.

 

So in brief you start with a lone hero on a random planet building your Empire from scratch.

 

Factions:

 

- Rebels

- Imperials

- Republic (Clone Wars)

- CIS (Droids)

- Jedi Army

- Sith Army

- 3 Pirate Groups (Black Sun/Consortium/and your own[i.e Concept art from Lucasart)

 

 

For the three pirate faction, "Your own", could be a contest or use already drawn concepts from Lucasarts prototype/concept section. Well if no copyright issues crossed I think we could have them entered since I saw some pretty cool ones.

 

Planets:

 

Current + a few more added to make the galaxy far more sandbox able.

 

 

Sidenote:

I know I might be pushing it with this idea and that our community has a "I'm better then you" complex ( that kills mods), but lets put that aside and get something done like the German community. I just feel more satisfaction when I build a Empire and it turns out into something special then have it pre-made and conquer with what they have. If theres no superiority complex or non-helping complex in this community then I can see mods reviving again.

 

So just so you know, I'll aim for you having to start with a hero then going around killing other pirates to gain loot money. Once you gain enough loot to start building a HQ, then you can tech to tier one units for your factions.

 

Examples:

 

Vader and Palpy would be on their ship in space near their Death Star after episode 3. They would then go around 2-3 planets building it up while protecting it from Pirates (Rebels would come in far later, or I'll try to have them come later). During this Pirate raid the Republic would turn to the Imperials when teching to Tier one (or have it start from Republic then turn into the Empire somehow) once the researching is done, they would get prototype Tie Fighters. Tier two could being Tie Fighters and what we're used to seeing, Tier three could be after a New Hope and so on into familiar ground.

 

Rebels could start off with just Obi-Wan on an asteroid going from planet to planet recruiting like minded folks gaining cash somehow. Since they're on an Astroid maybe they could get a bonus from that (As with the Empire having Coruscant). The Rebels can build infantry that hi-jack stuff from the Imperials which they get to keep afterwards to strike back. Using that special ability the Imperials would be careful what to build and leave fortified.

 

For the Pirate Faction you get a choice at what hero to build and then build up using that lone hero. You would get Chewie's special to hi-jack ships (like the Rebellion) and build up your forces that way. Yes you can still build an HQ but since its already built you can tech right away to other pirate ships (since they're weaker in a way).

Really nice idea, that would make a really cool mod.

And the basics of it wouldn't be difficult to do and then only some story like missions to unlock new techs or something, yeah your idea is awesome!

I hope we'll see this in any mod :)

I am planning doing something similar for my mod DOTE(Demise of the Empire), but instead of having your own faction, I created my own various charaters for a new unique faction. However, this will probably not be included in the first release of the mod but for v2.

 

Here's a summary of the storyline to the Campaign:

The faction leader's name is Proditus King(Name not final yet), he was once a vice admiral for the Empire under the command of Admiral "Unknown"(haven't made up a name for your superior)who was in command of the Denunciator(Actual ISD II in SW:Universe, using ship because its fate is unknown and there is little info on ship so it fits into story). As the war between the Empire and Rebels grew on he became tired of the Empire's inablility to crush the rebellion. His view towards the Empire would only get worse.

 

The Denunciator was stationed at Endor when the Rebels attacked. After the DSII was destroyed, with the officers dazed and confused Admiral Pellaeon took charge and ordered retreat. Admiral "Unknown," a close friend of Grand Admiral Teshik, stood his ground with Teshik planning to fight off the Rebels. Vice Admiral King, however, was not about to give up his live for a "weak" Empire. It was at that time, during the Battle of Endor, that King decided it was time to begin his quest to become the most feared threat in the galaxy and estiblish his claim in the universe. Therefore, he killed Admiral "Unknown" and took charge of the ship. Coincidently, a friend of his, from his days at the academy, was stationed aboard the Indictor(again an actual ship with little info and unknown fate) knowing this King contacted him told him to overpower his superior by any means necessary, take command of the ship, and retreat with King to "Unknown" location(not sure where yet, maybe random asteroid field) rather than regroup with the Imperial fleet.

 

So the campaign will start with you at this "Unknown/random" location with no ships(technically you will have two star destroyers but you won't have access them to use at start because they are badly damaged and are unable to repair them fully but you can gain access by completing various tasks). All you'll have is King, his friend and some stormtroopers, from there you'll do various missions to build up your empire also note you'll be doing this while you are still technically apart of the Empire but you won't really be apart of the Empire(you'll be a separate faction in actual Campaign), so you'll receive transmissions from various Imperial figures such as Isard, Pellaeon, etc. asking for help and what not. What you do will be entirely up to you, some missions might be historical events(ie. Bacta War, Hunt for Zsinj, etc.), others might be making deals with criminal organizations and bounty hunters, so you can "Relive Star Wars history or change it forever." ;D

Yeah, I have a great handle on XML coding, a good handle on mapping and I have few other people on my team helping. I just have to do a little bit more with the LUAs(studying more in depth how they work and such), I have a general idea on how they work(the if...then system) so in order to really use the full potential of the game I have to do a little bit more with the LUAs. I'll be doing a little bit with LUAs in v1 of the mod, for the various GCs, but you can expect the "create-an-empire" type of thing to be in v2. Version 1 should be out soon within the next month or two and v2 will probably be out a month or so afterward(maybe less than a month depends on how things go).

Below is probably not a full reply to your post but it might be similar:

 

Btw since this Empire mod wouldn't really be created on my side I thought of something similar for a smaller mod version using my own faction. I'd just have a single planet in my favor (a stable economic planet) or at least a big ship in the middle of nowhere with tons of fighters, bombers, and escorts. If the AI tries to hunt me down then it be a nice cat and mouse game. I've been trying for this scenario for awhile now sooner or later I should be able to play this "survival" game.
