1upD Posted September 15, 2007 Posted September 15, 2007 $#*! If I don't get my Metroid fangame, I'm gonna start a boycot of GM. Ok, so I was making a Platformer in Game Maker, and suddenly the game froze up and restarted the computer. It asked me if I wanted to run in safe mode, run normally, or last configuration, and I chose start with last known configuration. Everything went fine for a while, but when I tried to test my mod in EaW, IT STARTED THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM! What's worse, my harddrive seems to lose memory each restart, but I can't find where. But I couldn've sworn it said 2.2 gigs, now it says 3.6. I'm afraid to get off the computer for fear my Dad will come in and delete FoC entirely. He won't listen to me, and he doesn't understand that you can't just backup 'mods' and reinstall FoC-I've got a lot of map editor edits and ALO viewer textures in the data folder, all the patches have been asimialated into the game and it would take the world's greatest H4XX0R 5UR60N to backup ALL my files. Any tips? :-\ "I feel fantastic and I'mStill Aliveand when you're dying I will beStill Aliveand when you're dead I will beStill AliveSTILL ALIVE"~GLaDOSAnybody who thinks Palpatine is a sepratist knows NOTHING about star WarsWhen in doubt- rocket it.Dowload The Underworld's Might beta from Filefront!
Droid803 Posted September 15, 2007 Posted September 15, 2007 No, its very possible to backup FoC.I did it. You can do it too Get an external harddrive and simply copy your entire FoC directory over. Then reformat, reinstall, and move it back. That's kinda what I did. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v423/kc1991/droid803sig.jpg"That was fun"
1upD Posted September 16, 2007 Author Posted September 16, 2007 I don't have an external hard drive. I just remembered something, in one of the FoC folders, there's a backup .exe. If I was wrong and the problem was with the .exe, that would fix it...But that wouldn't explain why the mod launcher didn't work... EDIT:WHA- My hard drive says 2.10 gb... Something seriously freaky is going on. Logan Felipe Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 1. Uninstall Game Maker (after putting your GM files on a floppy or CD). If this works, then its a GM problem, and I have no idea what to do, except switch to RPG toolkit. If it doesn't, move on to step 2. 2. copy all modified XMLs and maps, textures, models, etc. (everything in the folder your game refers to when you play) into a folder that is not in the Lucasarts folder.1. Uninstall Game Maker (after putting your GM files on a floppy or CD).3. Uninstall FoC, then reinstall.4. Before adding files back in, TEST THE GAME and make sure it works. If it works, move onto step 11. If it doesn't, move on to step 5. 5. Uninstall FoC and EaW.6. Reinstall EaW.7. Reinstall the EaW update.8. Reinstall FoC.9. Reinstall the FoC update. 10. if you had no problems with steps 5 thru 9, move on to step 11.11. Begin adding your modified xmls back in, one by one. Each time you add one in, test the game. If it hasn't any problems, you're fine. If not, its faulty XML I Strongly think its a GM problem; so just try step one before anything else. http://miniprofile.xfire.com/bg/sf/type/0/captainartenon.pnghttp://z4.invisionfree.com/The_Sith_Lords_EaW/index.php?act=Attach&type=post&id=5554600Alternate Sitehttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a245/loverdog/pffuserbar1.jpghttp://img228.imageshack.us/img228/6296/sweawuban0cg.pngPetition for Obsidian and Bioware to work on Knights of the Old Republic III together! 3926 Total Signatures and counting!SW Fanon Wiki entry - Captain Artenon"A fake news show on fox should have real news!" -Louis Black, The Daily Show.

Logan Felipe Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 Nevertheless, you said the problem started when you were using GM. The FoC problems thus happened as a result of whatever GM did. http://miniprofile.xfire.com/bg/sf/type/0/captainartenon.pnghttp://z4.invisionfree.com/The_Sith_Lords_EaW/index.php?act=Attach&type=post&id=5554600Alternate Sitehttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a245/loverdog/pffuserbar1.jpghttp://img228.imageshack.us/img228/6296/sweawuban0cg.pngPetition for Obsidian and Bioware to work on Knights of the Old Republic III together! 3926 Total Signatures and counting!SW Fanon Wiki entry - Captain Artenon"A fake news show on fox should have real news!" -Louis Black, The Daily Show.
jedi_consulor Posted September 19, 2007 Posted September 19, 2007 I think the only realistic option IS to reinstall the EAW/FOC games. Make a back up to another folder first though. By the sounds of it you only have one physical drive though, so I guess to another folder is your only option,.. Unless you got a DVD writer and can copy your modified files over to a DVD. This GM software sounds terrible .. remind me not to use it ! http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e99/drone_pilot/JC_Sig.jpg Sote Mod Website @ http://sote-mod.com/forum/index.php?act=home
1upD Posted September 21, 2007 Author Posted September 21, 2007 Nevertheless, you said the problem started when you were using GM. The FoC problems thus happened as a result of whatever GM did.Uninstalling GM will not fix a FoC problem. I may sound very ignorant to you, but I almost think I'd rather lose FoC than GM. I dunno...maybe not...You guys are gonna be pissed at me now...I think the only realistic option IS to reinstall the EAW/FOC games. Make a back up to another folder first though. I believe the problem was that I had a constantly changing variable in question constantly, requiring the computer to stop and think over what the variable is while writing it. Just be careful how you use the step even, and you're good. 1upD Posted September 26, 2007 Author Posted September 26, 2007 CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!! I reinstalled FoC, it still doesn't work. Droid803 Posted September 27, 2007 Posted September 27, 2007 The its GM...lol.If reinstalling FoC didn't fix it, its not a FoC problem... Or try defragging, but not sure how much good that will do. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v423/kc1991/droid803sig.jpg"That was fun"
1upD Posted September 27, 2007 Author Posted September 27, 2007 Well, I guess I'm gone from the community then. Seriously, there must be another way. My Dad said to reinstall FoC without keeping mods in their old folders, but that won't change a thing. I think it's a registry problem. Logan, what'd you do when this happened? Droid803 Posted September 27, 2007 Posted September 27, 2007 then maybe you should backup everything from gamemaker, then reinstall...gee, you make it sound so difficult, if you have 2 hard disks its hardly a problem - you can even format one and keep what you want on the other! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v423/kc1991/droid803sig.jpg"That was fun"
Dr. Nick Posted September 27, 2007 Posted September 27, 2007 I gotta agree with Droid. Format solves all problems!Except my malfunctioning ALO plugin... http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g154/codeuser/sigcopy.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a245/loverdog/pffuserbar2.jpg[3:52:33 PM] Arbiter says: Paracetamoxyfrusebendroneomycin would cure all of his diseases....[3:52:47 PM] Arbiter says: Except with the side effect of probable death.

Gamemaker is on the C drive. How could it even affect FoC on the F drive? Droid803 Posted September 27, 2007 Posted September 27, 2007 Well, if it didn't you wouldn't have that problem with FoC would you? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v423/kc1991/droid803sig.jpg"That was fun"
1upD Posted September 28, 2007 Author Posted September 28, 2007 *SIGH* I doubt the program's existence is what's affecting my game. It's something that happened, not something that's happening! I think the computer had some registry or system error that's preventing FoC from running. Droid803 Posted September 28, 2007 Posted September 28, 2007 Its probably that - a corrupted registry. So, since you have two harddrives, format the one with EaW/FoC on it after backing everything you need up. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v423/kc1991/droid803sig.jpg"That was fun"
1upD Posted September 28, 2007 Author Posted September 28, 2007 Did you uninstall EaW before reinstalling FoC?I doubt it's an EaW problem-Though I gave out my EaW disc, so I couldn't test. Guys...I know you won't like this, but... I'm getting GM pro. :-\ I COULDN'T HELP IT! TROIDENGINE IS SO FREAKIN' AWESOME! Droid803 Posted September 28, 2007 Posted September 28, 2007 Well, you'll can uninstal GM and installing GM PRO, hopefully that will fix everything lol. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v423/kc1991/droid803sig.jpg"That was fun"
1upD Posted October 4, 2007 Author Posted October 4, 2007 Actually I believe it's merely a registry update, no actual program download.
