Was REALLY bored last day, and so began reading stuff of characters, etc etc etc of the sw universe and expanded universe, and..... OMFG, that thing is HUMONGOUS, LONG, EXTEND, I know the stuff from the movies and a little of expanded universe, but that is ridiculous, I mean, common, they have stuff going on in like 150 Years after yavin.... they keep adding more and more things the the story, I think is FAR enough, all this ruins the saga, what you guys think?

is the EU ever going to end? i find it unlikely it will end when people stop buying the books and games and whatever else there is, and most of the EU is quite good(some parts are crap).

they have stuff going on in like 150 Years after yavin....

it also goes to about 5000 years Before yavin ::)

God damn, this universe we live in.  I mean, we all have all these books, civilizations, new leaders and stuff, when is it ever gonna end?  I get tired of all this new stuff.  I'm sticking with the stuff we had, we should just stop progressing.

That's exactly what your sounding like.  The Star wars universe IS a universe.  It doesn't just "begin" and it doesn't just "end."  It's one of the most threshed out universes out there.

I'm not trying to flame, just trying to make you understand the absurdity of your statements.

oh Common, you are comparing our real existence universe with a FICTIONAL one, I mean, star wars is supposed to be a STORY, nothing more, and they keep adding more and more stuff going on, of course I'll never or we'll never say "oh I'm tired of our world to continue, it should end" or something like that, but is ridiculous that a story has such extended stuff, it's absurd, again, that's just me, or what?, should they continue until we have 80 years?, it's ok to have some games explain some stuff that happened between episodes, but it has gone to far (just like pokemon  ::))

dunno about you guys but the more EU they make, the worse and it worse it gets.

That's EXACTLY my point

but the EU is what makes this fictional universe just as real as our one. its the same thing with middle earth as well, the star wars universe has its own culture its own history everything thats needed to make it believable and real. the EU is what makes star wars much more then just another blockbuster movie.

dunno about you guys but the more EU they make, the worse and it worse it gets.

while i think that the first half of the NJO was bad, the second half and the LOTF are quite good, the EU has its ups and downs, but overall is very good and much better then books and games about other things(star trak comes to mind)

Im gonna have to Agree with ATAT here, your sounding as if you want star wars to die EJMM. The EU is what drew many fans to the films, and vice versa. There is nothing wrong with stuff being 150 years after Yavin. Sure, ill admit there are really boring barts of the EU, like LOTF IMO. But then there are really good parts, The Thrawn Trilogy, Allegiance, The Legacy comics.

the EU should die cause it stinks. it's starting to become like beating a dead horse. If it keeps going it might become despised because ot it's lack of quality. Just like pokemon. That should have died years ago but it's still going and everyone hates it.

What?? I don't get your argument: if people continue to make new things, it will get boring. Well what if people don't add anything: it gets boring!

I'm a big fan of the Expanded Universe. Its a lot of fun, there's always something different that is happening. Why do the movie canon purists try and take the fun away from those Star Wars fans who want more? Star Wars isn't about nitpicking on the quality of authors and writing. Its about imagination and finding yourself lost in a universe that can be just as "real" as you want it to be. Anyone can find a character to relate to in the Star Wars universe.

If its not the "die hard" SW fans that supports it, who will? Many of the novels become New York Times best sellers. There is a high interest in many SW arenas... comic books, video games, roleplaying, etc.  If anything, Star Wars is more alive because of them.

As long as there is an audience, there will be Star Wars material. Sure it isn't all to the same standard of quality, but what is?? Why not try it anyway and see if you like it? I dislike the NJO-haters that tried to slam it, before actually reading it themselves. What is it about something new that scares people? It isn't going to suddenly make their precious Star Wars "canon-ness" into anything less. In fact, the movies will always trump over other materials.

So take from Star Wars what you will. If you don't like something, fine... but don't try to take away from others who actually do enjoy the new stuff that comes from the Expanded Universe.

You do know most of the stuff in the prequals was made up in the EU?

Such as Coruscant. First appeared in the Thrawn trilogy. So if the EU stinks, so do the films.

And nice speech Evaders :P

Well i´m not trying to take it away from other people of course, but the way I see it it can´t continue forever the EU, IT´S OK if you like that stuff, or anybody else, but it is TOO LONG, of course, The thing of imaginating a "fantastic universe" and stuff is ok, but soon or enough, it´ll have to end, and my point in making the topic was the "it is ever gonna end", or "how do you think it must end" or something

And of course it gets boring if they add more and more crap to the saga, that´s the way I SEE IT, not trying to make other persons see it the way I do, and every story has an ultimate ending, soon or enough it´ll have to end, it cant continue for 20 more years ::)

No I didn´t know, but it is ok as i said before for some EU stuff to explain Somethings

There are SO MANY THINGS happenin in the EU that it´s just confusing, (for those who dont read the books and stuff), now luke has a son that decades later has a son, and this son has another son, wow

:P

Trust me, just start somewhere. So what if there's a whole lot of stuff.. just take it in small bits. Each novel, each comic book, each video game is just a small window into the Star Wars universe.

There are posts everyday on StarWars.com that ask "Where should I start?"

I personally recommend Zahn's "Heir to the Empire" trilogy. I really haven't met anyone that would dislike it. Truly is the start for the Expanded Universe novels and attempting to bring some continuity to all the products that follow.

the thrawn trilogy one of(if not)the best star wars novels ever. the x-wing series is also good, or you could do what i plan to do and read them in order

Zahn's novels are excellent.

I don't think that Star Wars will ever end as long as our generation still lives. We have interest in it, so they will keep writing books.

Its my opinion that as long as there are creative minds that are fans of Star Wars then the Star Wars Universe will continue to grow :) and i guess its smething we'll all have to live with

The way I see it is that Star Wars, for all we know, is actually going to hapen due to the fact that we are on the verge of colonization of Mars and such.  Maybe we are what Star Wars will become.  Here's an incredibly ridiculous idea.  What if George Lucas fell into a wormhole somewhere on Earth and was transported to an alternative universe were everything Star Wars is true, has happened, and he studied it for years while it was only seconds on Earth, and he came back and profited off of it?  That may seem just plain ludicrous, but how else do you explain him knowing everything there is to the Star Wars universe?

Sounds like you're talking about the concept of the Journal of the Whills? Pretty much that the whole Star Wars saga was given to us by this journal that Lucas happened to have found. Sadly this big of SW history isn't really mentioned :)
