Sure, there are people who are literal "slaves," the sweat shop workings, child control, etc, but the standard of living is probably the highest in all the communist countries and it's continuing to rise. They have the fastest growing economy in the world N. Korea is a different story. They're a poorer country, and they are more socialististic than most other countries. After Mao's stupid and futile revolution china has been one of the worst country in the world losing all that it has achived in the centuries.If they became a democratic country like ours in the west they will probably be able to roll back to a better status.
