Dorkthehunter Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 Has anyone else read the books or seen the movies? I think that Christopher Pialoni(sp?) did a fantastic job with the books for being as young as he is(19 when he published it). I think that the movie didn't do the book justice and destroyed every subplot in the book, to briefly describe it. I'm excited for the 3rd book in the Inheritance Triology(Eragon books)which will feature a green dragon on the front cover. (I think it's gonna be Roran that's the 3rd Dragon Rider because as I think we will discover, he has king's blood in his veins...that's what I am guessing, but who knows(besides the author)guess we'll just have to wait) What are your thoughts/comments/concerns/questions/predictions about these books(or the movie) Protecting the world from those who have an IQ higher than 30! Controller Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 ive read the two books, and dont have any plan of going to see the movie. and roran could be the third rider but i think it will most likely be someone else, maybe someone new http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i276/At-At_controller/leetspeak4cz1jr.gif
Guest Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 eragon = a Renaissance Fair production of star wars
Grand Admiral Thrawn 889 Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 i've seen the film and will probably buy it after next Thursday. I read the books and i have to say that they are much better and it gives a much better story line. I mean Book 2 is great and book 3 is even better the book 2 ending was impressive to say the least. http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n292/Admiral_Antilles/Thrawncopy.jpghttp://img525.imageshack.us/img525/3269/pffuserbar2globalmodnx9.jpg I Support the Resistance!
Mikan Cyclone Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 I love the books, and I would be reading them right now if Mythyk would give my Eragon back *glares* haven't seen the movie, but I saw they ruined a lot just from the trailer. http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a245/loverdog/pffuserbar1.jpghttp://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i276/At-At_controller/leetspeak4cz1jr.gif
Grand Admiral Thrawn 889 Posted April 14, 2007 Posted April 14, 2007 yeah i agree that the Film did ruin alot but still the film is very good, it just doesn't follow the books storylines. http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n292/Admiral_Antilles/Thrawncopy.jpghttp://img525.imageshack.us/img525/3269/pffuserbar2globalmodnx9.jpg I Support the Resistance!
Droid803 Posted April 17, 2007 Posted April 17, 2007 eragon = a Renaissance Fair production of star wars So I'm NOT the only one that could draw connections between the two.Actually, I drew so many I was going. RIP OFF ALERT. Seirously...Rebels (Varden), Empire (uhh..Empire), Palpatine (Galbatorix...or whatever...), Vader (Murtagh..blah screw spelling), Jedi (Dragon Riders), Sith (Forsworn)...etc On that scale it looks like the whole structure was ripped off. lol. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v423/kc1991/droid803sig.jpg"That was fun"
Guest Posted April 17, 2007 Posted April 17, 2007 how could anyone not see that it's a freaking rip off of star wars guess that's what happens when some 14 year old writes a book
Grand Admiral Thrawn 889 Posted April 17, 2007 Posted April 17, 2007 yeah i guess that whole thing goes along the same lines... but its still a good Book. and the 3rd and final should be out in the next year. http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n292/Admiral_Antilles/Thrawncopy.jpghttp://img525.imageshack.us/img525/3269/pffuserbar2globalmodnx9.jpg I Support the Resistance!
Dorkthehunter Posted April 18, 2007 Author Posted April 18, 2007 how could anyone not see that it's a freaking rip off of star wars guess that's what happens when some 14 year old writes a book And Star Wars is a rip off of LOTR...come on people. It really doesn't matter anymore. Everything is ripped off of something else if you look hard enough. Authors do that on purpose! (not plagerizing and completely taking ideas from intentionally, but using things called allusions. Look the word up if you want to know what it means) Allusions are a huge part of literature. That does not mean it is a rip off of something. Protecting the world from those who have an IQ higher than 30! Huzzah! Trust me...I'm a professional. Guest Posted April 18, 2007 Posted April 18, 2007 mmmmm.... LOTR and star wars are differnt enough that I don't think you could say that SW is a rip off of it. They share several elements of the mythological "heros journey" if you know what I'm talking about. LOTR puts a lot of emphasis on the talisman in this case the ring. The magical object. Wheras in SW the talsiman is the lightsaber and it's signifigance is not really all that prevalent in the movies. LOTR also lacks the father figure, well maybe not. But the role is not nearly as signifigant as it is in SW. Star wars is all about redemption. LOTR is all about.... ummmm.... evil and....... stuff.... but eragon is a shameless rip off at least the movie is. I saw the movie, I never read the book (couldn't stand it, I never made it past the 2nd chapter) boy lives on farm with uncle, boy finds dragon, farm is destroyed by bad guys, boy joins rebel band, boy has mentor, evil bad guy tries to kill boy, heck the movie even ends with a huge arial battle!

Brom=Obi-Wan. Eragon rushes home to warn his uncle, but finds him dead. Brom trains him, being the last of the dragon riders (jedi). the shade sends eragon a "help me, obi wan kenobi" like dream.( a combo between the leia hologram in IV and Vader's torturing of han on bespin to lure luke in V. Like yoda and Obi, the dragon and Brom warn him not to go.) Brom sacrifices himself so they can escape (like obi).bad guys track farmboy to rebel base ("Is the homing beacon secured aboard their ship?"), King sends army to crush the rebellion once and for all. essentially, eragon movie= Star Wars: A New Hope; medieval dragon version. They even copied grievous! SHade: I expected you to be more-well, more.GG: I expected someone of your reputation to be a little, older. Interrogations: Vader: What have you done with those plans?Shade: Where did you send it? Dorkthehunter Posted April 19, 2007 Author Posted April 19, 2007 I see what you guys are saying. There are many similarities, but it is just an archetype. A hero quest archetype among other things. Many stories fill this archetype exactly, not just SW and Eragon. And I think that the movie was a pathetic representation of the book and should not have been made. It got rid of all subplots and did not introduce most of the minor characters, people that become important in the second book. Protecting the world from those who have an IQ higher than 30! Huzzah! Droid803 Posted April 19, 2007 Posted April 19, 2007 Well, I never watched the movie but I still felt the connections. I agree with "Star Wars: A New Hope; medieval dragon version." lol. The archetype thing makes sense, but the order of events, and whatnot is too similar. Hopefully the third book will dispel the theory and prove the archetype reasoning...I mean, the second book helped it along "I am your brother" OMFG. You should have said father. (I like the books, its just that this notion of copied ideas is bothering me.) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v423/kc1991/droid803sig.jpg"That was fun"
Grand Admiral Thrawn 889 Posted April 20, 2007 Posted April 20, 2007 i have just finished watching the film again. (i bought it on DVD:)) (SPOILER) Read at own risk. i think that the ending of the film does not allow for a story based on the beginning of Eldest... the way that Ajihad doesn't die and you don't see the Twins in the film either. As well as the Urgals do not match the descriptions given in the book. Also in the Books there are no Human soldiers attacking the Varden in Farthen Dur there is only an Urgal army. also you do not see the Twins but they are key in the books later on. http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n292/Admiral_Antilles/Thrawncopy.jpghttp://img525.imageshack.us/img525/3269/pffuserbar2globalmodnx9.jpg I Support the Resistance!
Guest Posted April 21, 2007 Posted April 21, 2007 they probably won't make a sequel that's what happend to hitchikers guide to the galaxy movie. I don't think they'll be making a sequel
Mikan Cyclone Posted April 21, 2007 Posted April 21, 2007 They aren't. And if they do, they can't make the rest. Why? Because earth's there. Now, Douglas Adams wrote most of it, but the ending he never finished. So we can only blame the producer for that part. The rest (Vogan planet, Humma Kavoola (sp)) are all Doug's stuff. http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a245/loverdog/pffuserbar1.jpghttp://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i276/At-At_controller/leetspeak4cz1jr.gif
