The Story:

The galaxy is trapped in an endless cycle of extinction. Every 50,000 years, an ancient machine race invades the galaxy. With ruthless efficiency, the machines wipe out all advanced organic civilization. They leave behind only the scattered ruins of technology, destroying all evidence of their own existence.

Few believe this ancient legend. You, however, know it to be true. The fight to stop this extinction event has become the most important mission in the galaxy.

 

You Must now take command of a Elite Recon unit, with the Customisable character of Commader Shepard.

 

Your mission will take you into the deepest reaches of known space - and beyond. Aboard your ship, the Normandy, you will choose which planets to investigate, and where to take your team. In addition to the major worlds of the main story arc, you will have the freedom to visit a wide array of uncharted planets and other locations such as asteroids and abandoned space freighters adrift in space. On many worlds, take your team planet side in the MAKO in order to explore and find alien life, ancient artifacts and ruins, rogue trader colonies and a host of other amazing discoveries.

 

Lead your squad into intense Real Time Combat. using Biometric Weapons, to protect the Galaxy form this legend.

 

The Game is from the Developers of KOTOR1 and includes better skill as Abilities upgrading abilities. The Game also includes a living Galaxy which is based around how you control your characters. with Amazing Animation and realism down to expressions on peoples faces.

 

Well As can be seen from the Quote below you can customise your Character (commander Shepard) by they're class:

They are:

Soldier – Soldiers are Combat specific characters.

Engineer – Engineers are Technology centered characters.

Adept – Adepts are characters especially skilled with Biotic abilities.

Infiltrator – Characters who blend their Combat and Technical abilities.

Sentinel – Characters who balance using Biotic abilities and Technology.

Vanguard – Characters who mix their skills at Combat with their Biotic abilities.

There's been and Update at the Official Site it contains information on 3 of the Classes available for the character to choose for the Character of Commander Sheppard.

 

This system it would seem is based around the Character Selection options of KOTOR 1. Eg Soldier, Engineer, Adept. and each of them has there own individual Abilities.

yeah there are these are just 3 of them in Part one of a two part release which we do not have a date for.

quick update. here.

 

Release date is still unknown. (Gamespot is just being ridiculous Jan 2008.)

 

Mass Effect is just the first in a 3 part series.

 

in the game it is a Universe in an upon its self.

 

You ask how? Well as always there is a plot to the game. Deflect/defeat the Geth Invasion. However, as has been stated in various videos. You shape how it works when to interrupt someone talking it is highly advanced.

 

however there is also, side quests and random planets that you can investigate because you are curious, along with this there is also ships which you can come accross in transit. some of these will be related to the main quest, others will be useless wrecks and others still will have Useful weapons, Armour, items etc onboard and there is no way to tell without boarding. (yes, you will be able to return to them.)

 

Also like usual in bioware's latest games you have a Party and choices of who is in the party. (based on skills which you wish yto bring. Some Characters resemble in spirit those of KOTOR 1. Wrex = Canderous Ordo for example).

 

So far we have only a few names for them.

 

Commander Shepard (You).

Urdnox Wrex (Krogan Battle Master)

Saren Arterius(Turian spectre Agent)

Alenco. - unknown mentioned in a Video Assumed to be Human marines.

Jenkins. - Unknown Mentioned in Emergency transmission Video at the end assumed to be Surnames of Marines.

Ashley - female Engineer

L ??? - Mentioned on the party thing.

This E3 2007 trailer announces that Saren will command an army of Geth against Humanity and maybe the Citadel itself.  He may be the main villain of the game, or just a villain that is before the main one.  I do know how he gets control of the Geth, but I'd spoil it if you hadn't read the book.

the Game is meant to be the first of 3 games. so i'm guessing Saren is just this games villian.
