Re: General Veers

I found this segment on a web site:

Since a space and air attack was impossible, due to the energy shield, Lord Vader decided to send down ground troops to destroy the Shield Generator, and infiltrate the Rebel base. General Veers was the obvious choice for leading the assault, and he proved himself worthy. Armed with several AT-ATs (All Terrain Armored Transports), AT-STs (All Terrain Scout Transports), and hundreds of Stormtroopers, he went down to the planet surface, and began his attack. Although the Rebel resistance was strong, his attack was far stronger, and they quickly decimated nearly every Rebel on the surface. General Veers then destroyed the shield generator, and deployed his ground troops to infiltrate the base. Those of the Rebels who could escape were forced to flee, and the commanders of the Rebel base thought so as well, ordering a complete evacuation of the remaining ground troops.

It was unfortunate for the Empire that during the large battle that General Veers was killed. While it is not exactly known how he died, and what caused it, it is known that he perished in the battle, and never served the Empire again. Perhaps, if he had survived the Battle of Hoth, he would have been decorated for his excellent work, and for leading the Empire to a decisive victory against the Rebel Alliance.

I never knew this to be true, or have ever even come across this before. I don't see how this could be possible considering when you watch the film General Veers Destroys the Shield Generator and the rebel forces were in retreat, not attacking any longer ?

Just seems to be convenient fan fiction or EU stuff that doesn't really add up to what we saw in the movie. ?

it cant be true because in the EU general Veers survived the Battle of Hoth.

this is from Wookieepedia

Although the Battle of Hoth was a great victory for him, bringing him fame and glory, it was overshadowed by a report from his son's COMPNOR SAGroup commander. The commander reported that Zevulon Veers had gone missing during a SAGroup mission dealing with Rebel spies. However, the honored General suspected that his son had defected to the Rebellion and disowned his father. The betrayal of his son brought shame and dishonor to the Veers name despite the General's victory at Hoth. He would suffer from the ignominy his son brought forth for the rest of his life.

Nearly a year later, General Veers was placed in command of the Emperor's Elite AT-AT force on the forest moon of Endor. There his forces suffered a defeat to the combined forces of the Rebel Alliance and the furry Ewok natives shortly after the shield generator and the surrounding base was incinerated. Veers escaped capture with several other officers and fled the battle with the remnants of the Imperial fleet. In the following years he would move from one Imperial commander to the next in search of a new command, eventually serving as a template for Grand Admiral Thrawn's clones.

Most of the time he was shunned away or rejected downright because of his relationship with Lord Vader. Most post-Endor officers despised anyone who had served and survived Darth Vader and wanted nothing to do with those people. For six years, Veers wandered the galaxy watching as everything he believed in and fought for crumbled around him. Eventually, he became disappointed and distraught with the path the Empire was following, but his sense of loyalty and honor had kept him from defecting or going AWOL.

When the message recalling the remaining Imperial forces to the Deep Core arrived, Veers, like many other officers searching for a new hope, answered it and reported to the Imperial Fleet orbiting Byss. Six months after Thrawn's defeat at the Battle of Bilbringi, Veers would participate in the First Battle of Mon Calamari and Balmorra. It was during the Battle of Balmorra that Veers suffered the worst fate that could be given to an established officer of the Empire. Hated for the fact that he served and survived Lord Vader, Veers was severely demoted to the rank of Captain and sent on a suicide mission by Executor Sedriss—an insane and inept dark-sider.

Maximilian Veers, one of the Empire's greatest ground tacticians and heroes, perished on that fateful suicide mission.

Yes I found that snippet on a web site that proclaims itself to be a Star Wars Information Database. But the facts they posted don't add up to the actual events in the movie I don't think. Like I say the Rebels were already in retreat and Veers had destroyed their shield generator and was landing ground troops to infiltrate the rebel command centre.

No idea where they got their delusions from honestly.

i think i know. this

Rebel snowspeeder pilot Derek "Hobbie" Klivian flew his damaged vessel directly into the cockpit of Veers's Blizzard One walker.

Both men miraculously survived the incident but came out badly injured. General Veers, although he had seen Klivian coming, had not been quick enough to get out of the cockpit in time. His slowness had cost him his legs, after a support beam fell on top of them and literally crushed the bones into several pieces so small that reconstruction and bacta could not restore them. Veers, like many in the Galaxy, held a dislike for cybernetics and refused to have his legs replaced with prosthetics. Because of this, Veers would be confined to a hoverchair for the rest of his life.

you could have mistaken this for him being killed

I should have copied the site address down. But no, no.. The Article was only about General Veers Mate. It was a page on his profile and history. There was no 'mistake' ;) I quoted that tit bit from down the bottom of the page. Like I say the page was just about Veers.

I have the 'URL'

that is crap, veers loses his legs but hobbie is unschated? It should be the other way around. There's a much better chance that you will survive in a 50 foot walking tower rather than in a tiny airspeeder. And If he shunned prosthetics why choose a hoverchair? A hoverchair would be MORE humilitaing and dishonrable than prosthetic legs. It dosn't make much sense. Death to wookiepedia!

Well he couldn't have Died. The STar Wars Databank (official) URL http://www.starwars.com/databank/character/generalmaximilianveers/?id=eu

States

Veers eventually rejoined the Empire proper, earning the rank of General and command of the ground forces assigned to Lord Vader's Imperial Death Squadron. Although Hoth was a considerable victory for Veers, he faced personal shame when his teenage son defected to the Rebellion.

Not much is known of Veers' activities after the fall of the Empire at Endor. He surfaced again during the resurrected Emperor's campaign as a ground officer at the Battle of Balmorra.

The part when General Veers dies is a lie. It is completely made up. We people should not beleive these kinda stuff. Spreading lies about the empire will not be tolerated. Grd. Adml Thrawn 889 is right. He didn't die.
