BigMcLargeHuge Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 I just bought EaW and FoC together. I have not previously played EaW. I have read this forum, several other forums, and I can't find any clear information (that works for me) about how to get a completely basic mod to work. Most of them say to put the "Xml" folder extracted from Config.meg into the EaW GameData\Data directory. Is that still applicable when playing FoC? I edited Starbases.xml with Notepad and under the unit named "Empire_Star_Base_2", I changed the value of the attribute named "Build_Cost_Credits" to 1. However, when I start FoC and get into a Skirmish game, I click my starting Space Station, which is Level 1, and look at the button that upgrades to Level 2. It says 2000. Why doesn't it say 1? Any help for a modding newbie will be greatly appreciated.
Kelathin Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 you need to have a modpath set up. http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n36/DarkEmpireSPG/kelathin2.jpgI shall Name him MiniMe....
BigMcLargeHuge Posted December 15, 2006 Author Posted December 15, 2006 OK, could you please explain how I use a modpath? I already searched the entire forum, I found 4 messages with that keyword, and none of them explained syntax or how to use it. Thanks.
Droid803 Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 Stop feeding lies! lol.It still works if you put it in Data. (no gamedata for FoC)Funny thing is I couldn;t get my mod to be read from the modpath and I was SURE the path worked (i used one that worked before). Apparently it didn;t want to read myXML files... anyhow... You can still put the XML file in Data, but Modpath is better practice unless you can't get it to work... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v423/kc1991/droid803sig.jpg"That was fun"
BigMcLargeHuge Posted December 15, 2006 Author Posted December 15, 2006 OK, somebody showed me that the particular edit I was doing was incorrect. Once I got that corrected, I found that mods are working fine. You just copy the Xml folder to the Data directory under the FoC directory and edit away. No "modpath" needed. Thanks everybody!
MajorPayne Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 The only time modpaths are needed is if your going to have multiple mods installed and they don't interfere with each other.

You do know there is a separate space station for skirmish?
