Re: Mandalorian Mercs 56k beware!

Well, I have always had an evil streak when it comes to producing units  ;D I love the warrior spirit of the Mandalorians and I am glad they included a good model in the game.

 

I could not resist implementing them. The Mandalorian Mercenary unit comes in a special 5 man team armed with the outlawed black market Tenloss disrupter rifle http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Star_Wars_ranged_weapons#Tenloss_disruptor_rifle

 

They also carry black market Bio-Mines(2 per round). These large mines are similar to proximity area denial mines with an evil twist. They emit an invisible, odorless poison gas similar to the fauna on toxic worlds in a small area around the mine.

Of course! I forgot to include the full description as they are really Bio-Mercs. Not just for the mines, but for the bio-suits they wear which have a "very small" built in bacta drip that provides limited support in battle when injured and in toxic environments.

 

Now on to the coding. Understand that they way "I" implemented this unit is just one way to do it. However, this way is the least intrusive in editing the number of files. I will highlight in red the items you need to edit to "your" specifics as they are new entries.

 

Ok lets get started. You need to extract the Corruption_special_units.xml, Projectiles.xml, Miscobjects.xml files.

 

Ok, open the Corruption_special_units.xml. At the top it has the Bothans so just put this coding on top on it:

Hey that dudes rocks!

 

Yeah, I just finish a 2:10min team land battle against the hard AI Imps, I had the ZC and an easy AI teammate. What a battle. I made the Mandalorian cost 950 credits so I could only field a few.

The unit did well but not too well, I was really pleased with the way it balanced in just right IMHO.

 

They threw TONS of lancets at me, thank goodness for the Rocket launchers of those MDU's ;)

 

I am thinking about more units. I added a ground fighter for the ZC and the AAC hover tank Baliknight made for the rebs, but I think I need more air battles. Their are some good anti air defenses on all sides so balance should still be ok. Those AA crawlers for the Imps are very awesome. They can bombard big time on the ground and make minch meat of any air target that gets close, sweet.

 

Well, I'm just glad ppl see the utility of the non standard units, there are tons more in FOC.

 

Still have not found the Force Adept info in XML, anyone know where it is, much awesomeness will follow once it is located ;D

Did not find a xml for the dark adepts, but this is what I am using... (icon and text entries are part of FoC so do not "have" to edit.) You will need to make a ref to this file in GameObjectFiles.xml

 

Place Units_land_darkside_adepts.xml in GameObjectFiles.xml

I did not make this modle, it comes with FoC. Just had to unlock it. All I did was use a Jedi script, and make a few changes to abilities and point to the right modle & text descriptions in the .dat file. Anyone that wants this script go for it. I would not have posted it otherwise :P heh.

oh, heh. That is just a custom one I fool around with. It uses the Tyber Modle for now. Named him Bhaalshad :P Has land/space hero. Custom ship, custom space and ground weapons etc.... Mostly I use him for testing new things until they are assigned to the unit I want.

Anytime you see ppl sharing screens and code it is a given that this stuff is for EVERYONE, not something to say I can do it, you can't. I just think we need to share "ALL" of the info about the game we all enjoy. No hording here mate.

Oh looking at how you coded yours in, it is actually a much better way to do it. That controlling game file is the key. Good work mate.

I have already added some 20 units, ground/space. Having the ability to add each as its own file and just make the ref to it in GameObjectFiles.xml is a god send :) Adding structures, weapons, hardpoints, planets etc... well still the old way, but their new coding is a step in the right direction.

Yeah, tonight after I come back from my business meeting, I'll be doing some changing around to the new way of modding. Once again thanks for pointing out the controlling file. Strange thing is, I looked at that file too many times, but "NEVER" figured out the proper connection, DUH :)
