Empires crumble over time, especially when they overexpand. Just look at Rome.

 

Then there's the fact that dictators often either underestimate their opponents or simply make bad tactical decisions.

 

For example, I did a research paper on the Cuban Revolution awhile back. The former dictator of cuba, Batista, apparently made some poor tactical desicions that lead to decreased morale, and ultimately failure during the revolution. Fidel Castro's forces were pinned down and suffered heavy casualties at one point in the revolution. Fidel requested a 7 day cease-fire. during those 7 days, they negotiated fruitlessly while slowly leaking their forces out of the zone in which they were trapped. by the end of the cease fire, they had all escaped into the Santa Maestro mountain range. After that, Fidel's forces launched an offensive that successfully drove batista out of CUba.

 

The point of telling yoou this is that its possible for people to make stupid tactical mistakes or incorrect threat assertions. The Emperor thought he had the battle of endor in the bag; he was too overconfident.

The fact is, The Rebels had an immensely small chance of breaking the Empire, but they did it. They did it because they had a plan that had a small chance of succeeding, and luckily for them it did succeed. This is the SW universe, plot devices don't exist.

we dont know the final count of ships in that battle, and most likely never will. so we can never know just how impossible or other wise that battle was.

luckily for the rebels most of the star destroyers were randomly blowing up in the back ground during the battle

Yea, but why? That's what I don't get. That's how they got the advantage. When Lando says this in the movie: "I wonder why those Star Destroyers are waiting for" .

Then they show a picture of the many Star destroyers.

The rebel fighters/bombers were attacking them. That's why Lando said:  "I wonder why those Star Destroyers are waiting for". Even he thought it was odd that they were sitting there doing nothing. The emperor got too caught up in playing mind games with the rebels; to him, a couple SDs weren't that much of a loss.

Ahem, shields.  They shouldn't blow up randomly THAT fast unless they had grey paper for armor and a piece of clear plastic wrap for shielding. So its really that these people on board the ships have no minds of their own.

 

"Meh, rebels. Lets bet on which is the next ship to get hit by the superlaser. Oh my, look at all those torpedoes coming at the hull. We were told not to fight back so...my bet's on the Defiance you?"

"History" records that the rebels won. Regardless if they should have or not.

If palpatine wasn't so overconfident, they'd been crushed. all palpy. all palpy.

history is written by the winners, unless of course you want the empire version of the battle of endor

If I was writing it for the empire history the rebels would for the most part lose the battle of endor. Wedge, Lando, and a few other pilots would manage to blow up the DSII while all the rebel capital ships were slaughtered. On the ground. han, leai and a few others would blow up the sheild bunker and then barely escape while the ewoks were slaughtered by the imperial army. Luke would defeat the emperor and vader and escape too.

 

Soooooooo A handfull of rebel would escape but still complete their objectives but the whole rebel fleet would get destroyed.

the empire version is that, the Death Star was the rebels and the emperor and a small Imperial fleet went to offer them peace with the huge rebel fleet, the emperor goes aboard the death star and sacrafices himself to destroy the death star when they refuse his peace offering, the blast from the death star destroys the rebel fleet,(this was in the second X-wing book, i forget what it was called right now - wedge something)

really? Well then again I don't think I could remember since Ive read the 2nd X-wing book only once years and years ago. I think it was called Wedge's Trap or something like that. And I keep wanting to check it out from the library but I haven't seen in the years since I first read it. ehrdg! probably some stupid kid dropped it in his toilet or something and the library won't get a new one
