DeadlyDarkness Posted October 22, 2006 Posted October 22, 2006 Hi, I just tried starting to mod for 3ds max 8, and I hit a major snag. I can export geometry, but not textures. If I try to export with a shader enabled (specifically the meshgloss.fx) it crashes max. If anyone can confirm the plugin does work with max 8, and perhaps provide me with a sample scene. I'm running win xp sp1 (upgrading to sp2 is not an option, my network just wouldn't work). My version of max does not have the service patch installed.
jedi_consulor Posted October 22, 2006 Posted October 22, 2006 I was having just the same trouble and yes it was crashing max. I haven't found out why it was. I reinstalled max though and re added the plugin - and it didn't crash the next time. Which plugin were you using ? - the max 6 plugin doesnt work with max 8 - you would need to get the updated version. http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e99/drone_pilot/JC_Sig.jpg Sote Mod Website @ http://sote-mod.com/forum/index.php?act=home
DeadlyDarkness Posted October 22, 2006 Author Posted October 22, 2006 Im pretty sure, but I forgot about the other plugin, I'll have a quick check to be sure. Edit: Re-downloaded plugin, was exactly the same. I know for a fact it is a problem with the shaders, it exports fine without. There aren't any tutorials on how to label models, add bones and where to place the files. Basically, I need a sample max file.
jedi_consulor Posted October 22, 2006 Posted October 22, 2006 I have an idea where you can get some check on EAW Files and look for Keeper of the faiths model pack - he has posted up his source files for people to use in 3D Max - they are in Max Format http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e99/drone_pilot/JC_Sig.jpg Sote Mod Website @ http://sote-mod.com/forum/index.php?act=home
DeadlyDarkness Posted October 22, 2006 Author Posted October 22, 2006 Already got them they didnt work. It also says that these cannot be directly exported into the game. I just need a max 8 scene, with a textured cube with shaders, just so I can see what to do.
DragonShadow Posted October 22, 2006 Posted October 22, 2006 You have to extract the shaders from Shaders.MEG (in Gamedata) into your shaders folder in Max 8. These are a different format from the ones that came with the Map Editor and model converter plugin. They work with max 8. Only known bug is that the ones required for animated land units still don't work. Otherwise, it's fine. Happy exporting! http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h65/NightshadowDragon/RyuuKageSIG.jpg http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h65/NightshadowDragon/AoSW-JCW_Banner.jpg

scott2978 Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 ... the max 6 plugin doesnt work with max 8 - you would need to get the updated version. Where can we get that from please? Scott

scott2978 Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 Not to be a pest or anything, but I see nothing on that site that mentions an ALO exporter/Max plugin. Where on there is it? What's it called? Sorry I'm such a n00b, and thanks a LOT for your help, I've been looking for these files for 2 days now. Scott
Mike.nl Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 It was on their homepage, it's been pushed into their archives by now http://www.petroglyphgames.com/news/index.php?id=62&year=2006
