They made a new campaign, then they changed the scale of the planet models in Planets.XML. That's pretty much it. ;)

Hello the english communauty :)

For increase the size of the galactique map, you must replace planet, change the scale of galaxie.alo, change the range of hyperspace activity, change the scale of some command bar components and change the scale of icon.

I am the autor of the galactic map in french mod "strategic improvement" and I prepare some news scenarios with 80 planet divided in sector ( the big scenario have 194 planets ). The galaxy in the mod SI have a size of 2000 x 2000 and all planet are exactly placed ( coordonate X and Y with Autocad Soft). I use this map for source : here

Approximatly 250 planets are referenced on planet.xml who will be in the next version 1.9b.

I haven't the time for translate the Strategic improvement french mod in other language, so I authorize to use my work in the english mod who want a galactic map with exactly coordonnates. Just give a credit :)

Strategic Improvement french mod will be in FOC soon.

I hate french and it's a little diffiuclt for me to translate in to english!

Try the Babelfish Translator. http://babelfish.altavista.com/

just retype into the text box or copy and paste.

Talking about SW in other languages reminds me of a couple things:

Rebel Strike: It was an interesting experience to hear admiral Ackbar tell me that "Our cruisers can't repel firepower of that magnitude!"

in German with French subtitles.

Lando Calrissian's Sullustan copilot: That is an actual language spoken in Africa; I found that out in the Episode VI commentary on the DVD release. When the movie first played in that region, people were delightfully suprised to hear a character in a widely popular movie speaking their language undubbed (IOW, he speaks that language no matter where the film was shown; unlike John Wayne movies and the like that are dubbed over by other people later on.)

Almost 200 planets  :o

Have they playtested that? ::) Even a 100 planet map after about half an hour starts getting laggy due to the sheer number of units it has to keep track of. The lag is a problem of the EaW engine (my uber computer can easily handle large high graphics battles), and the fact that once it has lots of units, enemy AI tends to constantly be shifting its forces across the map, simultaneously. I've watched it send three fleets to one planet near by, all of them leave as soon as they get there, and then a couple more leave behind them...it's insanity. :-\ I shudder to think what it might do on a lesser system...

You make a good point, but since all of Americas stuff is made in China, it's no wonder it wouldn't work with my comp. I bet all of Europes stuff is made in Euorpe so it's no cheap crap that falls apart...

I wouldn't trust anything unless it were made in Japan, lol...especially made in America, Mexico, or any European country (sorry guys, lol). Personally, none of my Chinese or Taiwanese manufactured stuff has ever failed me.

  • 2 weeks later...

namspopof,

may I ask what the specs are on the computer that you are using to develop the galactic map?

I run a 2.4GHz P4 with an ATI Radeon 9800 256mb DDR and 1.5GB of RAM.

When I was creating a very similar galactic map using sources from the same map and the map in the back of The New Essential Chronology, I suffered from severe lag when I tried to move my heroes and units from planet to planet. I would say that I had between 100-200 planets spanning the Old Republic era to the New Jedi Order era.

I am very interested to know if I am suffering from processor lag or video card memory lag.

You can always tab out and check your processor log by hitting CNTRL+ALT+DELETE and clicking on the Performance tab on the Task Manager.

I'd be interested to know if anyone with SLI had this problem.

Its DEFINATELY processor lag.

What is there to display other than spheres rotating? not much.

But, there ARE miilions and miilions of calculations going on for that AI. Its RAM and Processor for sure.

Hi,

I have a modest PC : intel 3ghz, 1024 DDR, 6600GT nvidia.

On my PC, the galactic map of 194 planet have little lag at start but after 10 or 15 day, the game become very laggy :(

But some of french player use this map without laggy ( they have probably a very good Pc ).

With my config, 90 planet is the maximum for optimal game, after , I have some laggy day after day I play.

My dream, a hudge galactic map of 400 or 500 planet but the limit is 195 planet, after this limit, the game crash and too much lag are present.  ;)

I totally agree with your vision of a map full of planets. Since I wasn't able to enable having 100-200+ planets on my PC, I thought of possibly creating separate galaxy maps for each era of play (Old Republic, Rise of the Empire, Rebellion, etc.), but the lack of modded units doesn't really make it a possibility right now.

Also, namspopof, I installed the Strategic Improvement Mod and tried to check out the created GC maps of 70-130 planets each. At the first option screen where you can choose which map you wish to use, I could see the appropriate number of planets in the display on the right, but as soon as I started the game, all I had on my screen were the default planets on a very LARGE galaxy map which had the scale increased. Is this the way it's supposed to be, or do I have to do something else?
