Can any one give me some news on the Longbowmen, There different types? and some screen shots of there stats (If possible)

I was dissapointed in the last game where they were so poor (Compared to real life).

By the way i have seen totalwar.org.pl but i cant read polish so i could make much sence of the units from there.

Thanks.

Hi AVJR,

What do you refer at by different types? Any unit in MTW2 has different modles types in it even if they are basically the same (*different textures). See the pictures we have - I'm sure your will find them there.

Cheers,

Cain

The archers in the agincourt demo are "archer militia" not longbowmen. THis is the case because the longbowmen would have made winning the battle too easy

ps. the battle is on a much smaller scale to the agincourt game that will be found as an historical battle on the full version

The longbow men in the game will evolve in appearance depending on the period. Also a new feature of mtw2 which has not been well explained is that as the armour bonus (small shield on unit card) of an individual unit increases this affects their appearance so that some units can go from leather padding visuals all the way up to full plate (this depends on the parameters set by the CA team since not all units would have had such armour historically. Another thing is that the types of armour displayed by units (especially mounted and unmounted knights) will change with the development of different types of weapon...the biggest changes will come with the development of gunpowder...thats my rant done, hope it helped ;D

two things support me in that they are longbowmen

1)if you watch the movie thing at the starts it says Henry will need to use his longbowmen to help fight of the french(or something to that affect)

2)longbowmen were at the battle agincourt and the TW games try to be historical accurate in the historical battles

Edit: also as far as i know(and thats alot) i think longbowmen is more a term for bowmen that used the longbow(who would have guessed :P) not a name for them so were both right they are longbowmen militia(or something like that ;D )

I see and thanks for the help so far.

I'm a Longbow/100 years war fanatic, know just about all you'd ever want to know about it. I've seen some videos of Agincourt and it's obvious that they havent made the odds 6:1 (as it was in real life) and it doesnt seem that the Longbowmen there made much of an effect as they did.

To Cain look on totalwar.org.pl (Then go to English, then units, then go through the different country's some interesting stuff there. However i don't know the stats and effectiveness of them.

Cheers

Longbowmen were used in just about every engagement in the 100 years war.

im sorry but i know for a fact that those are not longbowmen that have been provided for the demo. The video is the video that will be provided for the Agincourt in the full game which will be much bigger. In this version they had to keep size down so they reduced the proportion of french to english, this meant that if the english retained their massive firepower superiority for the battle it would be a walk-over. Those are not longbowmen which, if you watch a video of the full game agincourt (of which there are 3 i believe), and look at the unit thing on the mtw2 site, are specifically remarked as having "the powerful longbow" whiule if you pause the demo and right-click the archers it describes them as archer militia. :P

Ok, cheers, however in real life the French should of won the battle of Agincourt, the French numbered 36,000 (at least and many hundreds comming throughout the course of the battle) to the English 5,900, 5,000 of which were Longbowmen.

All the French had to do was march on in an orderly manner towards the English, whos arrows would be not be very effective against the best plate armour at the time even with the Short Bodkin Arrow Heads, untill roughly 20-30 yards away. (However poorer armour made could be pieced at ranges of 100 yards) Although it is also worth mentioning that the archers (Longbowmen) would be good enough to aim for weaker/lesser protected points in the armour e.g. the arm pit or groin. At ranges of up to 70 yards (of course this all depends on the archer, most if not all archers on the 1415 Campaign leading to  Agincourt, used a Longbow with a  draw weight of 12-14 stone, being able to loose from 12-18 arrows a minute).

Excellent info...but did you know that regular use of the longbow left the user permanently deformed by twisting the arm and shoulder joints and putting a permanent bend in the collar bone... 8) hah.

Yeah for many, in fact its only thought that 5% of the male population in the world now can actually pull back the Longbow and loose an arrow without failing or falling over ect. And even few than that to actually keep it up at the rate they did. There bones showed unbelivable bone growth, only developed nowadays by the most dedicated body builders.

But still any stats on them yet?

Well depends ... the job was good maybe for the community who was partially scared anyway ... but some people at CA and SEGA were very upset and scared too. So while everybody was a bit scared nobody has done much in contacting us with a solution while keeping an open mind – our initial promising contact got no reply from CA UK … I think they just moved the blame from one department to another missing the chance to solve the problem – if this can be considered a problem.

I just wish that some of the devs were happy - because many of my actions have speeded up the MTW2 exposure and the community appreciation. Probably a CA community plan or two that were never considered to be putted into action - have now been. I think I offered them a chance to experiment with more options.

And btw - I still have pictures left :) I always have.
