When are you going to buy Microsoft new os?

College discount represent.  I can get copies of Windows XP Pro for $10 (or free if I want to download an ISO), and I believe they will be selling Vista for the same price a few months after it gets released.

 

Oddly enough, the ISO download is a full version, despite the fact that you probably already have windows if you are downloading and burning an ISO.

 

 

Back to Vista, if not for DirectX 10, I wouldn't waste my $10.

 

If I wasn't getting the discount, I wouldn't jump.  I use Linux for most things non-gaming, and it's not worth the $200ish Vista will cost.

Probably when applications and games will start requiring it.

I'd like first to have a chance to test it and then perhaps eventually buy it.

you can pay about 20US$(i think it 20 it might be more) for the beta of it. and the only game that i know will require it will be halo 2*starts to mumble about how evil micro$oft is for only have halo 2 for their new OS*

no it does its a beta of the ultimate package with everything enabled other then that there will be no trial cause microsoft has never needed one

NEVER or when they take XP off the market all the games are optimised for XP.

Unless Vista has a completley different base or core or whatever, it might...will directX10 run on xp?

No, Vista and DirectX 10 are being designed together. DirectX 10 will not work in XP.

 

Thus for people wanting to buy a new system (esp gamers), you should really wait until DirectX 10 video cards come out on the market.

So far im just going to use the Beta version I got until later 2007 and then buy the real thing, unless I feel the need upgrade, XP seems to be good enough for me.

For me, DX10 compatible card first, then this.  The only reason I WOULD want Vista is Halo 2 PC
