1. Can you brief describe yourself for the community?

Sageking: Well in a nutshell, I graduated USC in Los Angeles, Go Trojans! Have been playing RTS games all my life, since C&C Tiberian Dawn. After college I did some work in China, then some PR work for gaming companies in Los Angeles, and now I’m here at Petroglyph supporting our awesome EAW community! I’ve always been quite active in various gaming communities, mostly RTS.

2. Is this your first job in the game industry?

Sageking: This is indeed my first job ‘specifically’ in the gaming industry, though as mentioned earlier, I have done PR work (Public Relations) for video game clients before.

3. When/How were you first learn about this job at Petroglyph?.

Sageking: Found this job on gamasutra.com, and was like ‘hey! I can do that!’ Funny thing is Petroglyph is made up mostly of ex- Westwood Studios and I had applied there when I was 13 yrs old and a huge Command & Conquer fan.

4. What are some things you do on a daily basis at Petroglyph?

Sageking: My daily agenda changes all the time, as things change so quickly in this industry. But the staples of my job are keeping the community informed via mailings/forums about Petroglyph news and vice versa. Believe it or not, Petroglyph always wants to hear about what you guys are up to! Also, planning events (contests/tournaments), interviewing staff/community members (podcasts/community spotlights), conducting meetings with community leaders, writing press releases/game updates, meeting media contacts (i.e. IGN/Gamespot interviews), and getting our upcoming Petroglyph Community Site setup are all often on the to-do list.

5. Do you have any recommendations for those who want to join the gaming industry?

Sageking: First off, find out what you love to do. In any industry, the more you understand about your own interests, the more you know about how you’ll fit your unique contribution in the big picture. If you love modding, it would be a nice transition into game programming. If you like creating new unit models, perhaps a modeler or artist role will be better. Find your niche, know your interests. The next step is to build your network. Find your favorite companies and start talking to them via forums, emails, etc… You’d be amazed in the interest level that devs have for fans. We do make these games for you guys J The more people you know in the industry you want to be in, the more doors will naturally open up.

6. Any closing comments or information?

Sageking: Keep up the good work modding! I’m quite confident many of these mods will increase the replay value tremendously! We will be launching our Petroglyph Community Site soon, so stay tuned to petroglyphgames.com.

I for one am glad we get to learn a little more about the man who has taken charge of leading this community.

I played a game yesterday with these PG guys and they really seem down to earth.  They were like my clan almost, in the way they were joking with each other and just having a good time.  It was really cool seeing these guys and talking with them.  I look forward to more contact with Petro guys in the future!

i know that but i wodered if we could play them in multiplayer when we get the game. Of course i know that they playing FOC already the had to play it to find the bugs.

Bugs? Nonsense...no LucasArts game ever has bugs... ::)    ;D

All the devs are pretty cool. I hope I have the opportunity to play them sometime. They sound like really down to earth people, like someone else said.

Just started college with a major in Game Art & Design (w00t!). I'm pretty sure I wanna do 3d modeling and texturing and stuff. It's so fun, lol. Can't wait to jump into the industry in three years... ;D

Good for you, DragonShadow and Wildcat.  ;D I'm not smart enough to do that kind of stuff. If I would have a career with a gaming corporation, it would either be in marketing or accounting, or story line designer/tester. I might make a new thread in the Bar asking what job you are looking to do, or something like that. I feel inspired.  ;D

Anywho....does anyone know if there are going to be more interviews with other Petro people(some might have bios online...I don't know)
