Yo, It's Calamity from Only War 2...

 

I was wondering if anyone knows how to edit particle FX. I've looked through all 17 pages here and found nothing... I have a suspicion i've missed something obvious... but anyways, can somebody give me a hand :P

i hear some one is making a particle editor

 

some one else hex edited the existing particles

Opened with a HEX editor and had values changed. (its in hexidecimal)

Engine Glow particle size is hexed up or down...thats as much as I know on this topic (lol)

when i say "hex edited" i mean the person (bailknight) opened the particle in a hex editor and changed some stuff

well... i'm far too addicted to particle fx to wait... so i'll show that fucker that I can mess with numbers and digits until my eyes bleed too! What the hell happened to sharing code? :P

Gotta get mikes site again. His site has lots of information that can help you find what to hex edit to change some values.. or you can wait for his particle editor

Look through the .DDS and .XML files....

 

Use a .MEG converter(google it) and extract Textures.meg, the XMLs come with the map editor.

 

Find some good .DDS tools.

 

I found some particle effects.....

P_PARTICLE_MASTER.DDS, P_PARTICLE_EXPLOSION1.DDS, P_ASTEROIDS.DDS, P_PARTICLE_LIGHTNING_HIGH.DDS

 

Now all you need is XMLs that control them and there you go!

I've done all that :P contrary to what would be sensible... the particle fx are not controlled by XML files... searching the souce xml for instances of them file names produces no results...

 

I could edit those, but they are the masters, and editing them would edit all of their children... Every object i've opened in a hex ediot references them master files :P All I need to do is find a way to convert the nonsense characters into something sensible...

 

Been searching the past few hours for some hex editing shizzle, anything to gleam some light on what the hell is going on in them files... oh well, it's all fun (*cries* I want my "ParticleSystem.INI"!!)

Hmmm....

 

Aren't the particle effects 2-D? I always thought the alpha channel controlled what showed and what didn't. So you could create a new master file and Hex edit an already made file to show the new master texture instead of the old.  But make sure the old texture used matches up with the new one.

 

Is anyone getting me?
