Grand Admiral Thrawn 889 Posted October 3, 2006 Posted October 3, 2006 o well get a credit card. http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n292/Admiral_Antilles/Thrawncopy.jpghttp://img525.imageshack.us/img525/3269/pffuserbar2globalmodnx9.jpg I Support the Resistance!

Grand Admiral Thrawn 889 Posted October 4, 2006 Posted October 4, 2006 lol we are on topic we're talking about buying pc parts on a Credit Card. Hey Calm down this is the Bar we're aloud off topic in here. oh yeah i might be getting a AMD Athlon 3700+ for £30. http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n292/Admiral_Antilles/Thrawncopy.jpghttp://img525.imageshack.us/img525/3269/pffuserbar2globalmodnx9.jpg I Support the Resistance!

My CPU has 1Gb if L2 Cache, 800 Mhz front side bus, etc. Granted a dual core would be twice the cache but many of them (Pentium D) are still running at 800 Mhz front side bus as mine is. I'll probably wait until the Core 2 Duo machines have been on the market a bit longer (reviews are good so far though). The Pentium D processors are flooding the market right now because folks have realized that they are just 2 Prescotts inefficiently paired together and run as dual core. Eric072691 Posted October 4, 2006 Posted October 4, 2006 What I mean by not going over budget is not spending WAY too much, but I have been using a credit card to get some points . I have a preset limit to how much I want to spend, but I do have a couple hundred extra, http://img86.imageshack.us/img86/8752/sigsf6.gifWhen your outnumbered, you've got more targets to shoot AND less chance of missing.
Grand Admiral Thrawn 889 Posted October 5, 2006 Posted October 5, 2006 if you want a dual core have a look at AMD's as well as the Intel cause intel can be good but Athlons can be better. http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n292/Admiral_Antilles/Thrawncopy.jpghttp://img525.imageshack.us/img525/3269/pffuserbar2globalmodnx9.jpg I Support the Resistance!
VZaknaril Posted October 5, 2006 Posted October 5, 2006 The Core 2 Duo is the best performing processor out there at this point in time (up to 4Ghz of cache!!). I have just waited because I want to give them time to "work the bugs" of the technology. "Conroe" was just introduced in July so I will likely wait a few months. They already have quad-core Core 2 processors in the works! http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m83/qalsip/zak1_demo.jpghttp://miniprofile.xfire.com/bg/sf/type/2/zaknaril.png

Grand Admiral Thrawn 889 Posted October 5, 2006 Posted October 5, 2006 what do people prefer AGP or PCI Express? http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n292/Admiral_Antilles/Thrawncopy.jpghttp://img525.imageshack.us/img525/3269/pffuserbar2globalmodnx9.jpg I Support the Resistance!
Garbageben Posted October 5, 2006 Posted October 5, 2006 PCI-Express. AGP is being phased out. http://miniprofile.xfire.com/bg/sh/type/0/garbageben.png
Grand Admiral Thrawn 889 Posted October 5, 2006 Posted October 5, 2006 they're still equal though! http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n292/Admiral_Antilles/Thrawncopy.jpghttp://img525.imageshack.us/img525/3269/pffuserbar2globalmodnx9.jpg I Support the Resistance!
VZaknaril Posted October 5, 2006 Posted October 5, 2006 Garbageben, your PC still looks good...and Corsair RAM is magnificent! PCI Express is phasing out AGP because it takes what was good about AGP (a dedicated pathway to the processor and sideband addressing) and improves upon it with a faster transfer rate (up to 4GB/s), it's full-duplex characteristics, and the fact that it can support other devices than just video. http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m83/qalsip/zak1_demo.jpghttp://miniprofile.xfire.com/bg/sf/type/2/zaknaril.png
Grand Admiral Thrawn 889 Posted October 5, 2006 Posted October 5, 2006 yeah but you'll find that most of the MOtherboards that are in circulation at the moment are AGP like mine and my friends the only ones that are PCI Express are less than a year old. its the same with the 939 socket for processors my board is a little over 2 years old and isn't pci or 939 socket compatible. http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n292/Admiral_Antilles/Thrawncopy.jpghttp://img525.imageshack.us/img525/3269/pffuserbar2globalmodnx9.jpg I Support the Resistance!
VZaknaril Posted October 5, 2006 Posted October 5, 2006 True. The machine would probably have been built sometime this year to have PCIe. Your original question, however, was what do people prefer...not what is more common. I'd say that anyone who actually knows the technology (or even those who don't but want the best) would go with PCIe. You can still find AGP video cards as readily as PCIe, but most of your new machines will have PCIe technology instead. http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m83/qalsip/zak1_demo.jpghttp://miniprofile.xfire.com/bg/sf/type/2/zaknaril.png
Eric072691 Posted October 5, 2006 Posted October 5, 2006 PCIe has the same speed as AGP right now, but there are more and more PCIe cards and less and less AGP cards. But I'm going PCIe (dual video cards)I just don't have the video cards yet lol http://img86.imageshack.us/img86/8752/sigsf6.gifWhen your outnumbered, you've got more targets to shoot AND less chance of missing.
Jedi Master Tofu Posted October 6, 2006 Author Posted October 6, 2006 AGP has 4 different speeds: 1x 2x 4x and 8x 8 being the fastest. PCI-E is most known speed is 16x. 16 is obviously double the speed of 8 making it much preferred by the video card manufacturers. AGP 8x has a maximum data rate transfer of 2 gigabytes/secondPCI-E has a maximum data rate transfer of 4 gigabytes/second When you get two PCI-E's running at the same time your getting roughly 32x or 8GB/sec making your comp a gaming machine. PCI-E will be the future of video cards (until they come out with something like AGP-E ;D) because of their amazing speed and support for 2 video cards running in unison.
