New Console War Thread!!!

If it was for PC I might of tried it out just for the hell of it. Also nothing can top the PS3 yet since all we are hearing are the noobs crying at each other while the serious people are sitting back and waiting for the rise of the PS3 to happen. Crap I got into console wars :/ (edit: Didn't mean the console war bit but i'll keep it in) Actually I tried Starcraft 64 and it was ok but same as the PC game really but PC stands out more since you can rip it and play it on any computer and over hyped. Even Assassin's Creed is over hyped but what can you do

 

I don't know, I'm don't know anyone in real life that wants the PS3 in real life, serious gamer or not, even the most serious gamers I have heard laugh at it. And I have probably been playing video games longer than you, so I don't think I qualify as a n00b. Even in Japan, PS homeland, those polled say they would rather get a wii 2:1.

 

Ok let's get this thing constructive, Post what systems you are planning on getting and why. Then post why you wont be getting the other system.

 

I will be getting a :

 

Wii:

-Zelda

-Fun Marioish Games (Mario Kart, Super Smash Brothers)

-All the old nintendo games

-The controller

-The strong possibilty of a lightsaber game.

-Cheapest of the systems

 

X360:

-Kotor

-Grand Theft Auto

-Mass Effect

-Cheaper than PS3 with likely price drop in near future

-Assassin's creed (I just really payed attention to this game today when I saw the video posted on another forum and wow...just wow: http://www.2old2play.com/modules.php?name=Video&op=view&video_id=71)

 

Why I wont get a PS3:

 

-Expensive

-One of its most popular games is charging you to download cars that should already be in the game.

-Not many games I would buy that aren't coming out on the 360, my exception is Afrika...don't know what it is about but looks interesting.

-Games are going to be higher than the other systems (US ~$70+)

Good idea and I accidently went into console wars without thinking -.- Not gonna repeat myself what I said before the update though since PS3 has enough going for it that it will survive with no threat from anything else.

I'm probably going to get a Wii (though quite a while after the release).  If at nothing else, it can play games that my PC can't (type of games, not specific titles).

 

What I don't understand is what the PlayStation 3 has going for it.

 

Blu-ray?  Great for some people.  Probably helps that HDCP is going to make life hell for people wanting to watch HD-DVD/Blu-ray on computers.

 

Processing/graphics power?  I'm going to be building a better (per dollar) computer sometime next year.  The specs really aren't that great compared to higer end gaming computers when they were released.

 

I'm quite sure it will survive, if only due to Sony's name on it.  But it's not going to dominate, and I'm not going to even consider getting it.

YAY!!! WAR!

 

For a long time I was convinced that PS3 would beat X360 in overall sales, with the Wii being a wild card. But recently, after hearing about Sony's bizarre ways of charging for games and another launch push, (missing another christmas boon) I'm starting to think the X360'll beat it. Sonys strenght at this point are its power, (though too expensive compared to it's quality) it's few killer games, (the other consoles have equally many or more) and the name behind the console. I think that last one will quarantee their survival but nothing more. 

 

I'll purchase:

 

Wii:

-Metroid (The ultimate larger than life ending to the Prime-subseries is coming! Bow you puny mortals!)

-Other trademark series's (Mario, Zelda)

-A strong lineup of 2nd and 3rd party games (Resident Evil, Fire Emblem, Dragon Quest, Red Steel, etc.)

-Controller

-Price

 

Possibly PS3 once price drops dramatically:

-MGS4 (must... somehow... posess... game...)

-Resident Evil 5

-Few other interesting projects

 

Why I won't get a X360

-Not a single must-have game for me

-dont have money to buy them all

There are more. This is just a small sample. On top of that you also have the backward compat which the 360 has pissed me off on. I don't care about HALO. it's a cruddy game ith shoddy vehicle controls. The games I have for the original X-box are not on the BC list and that just freakin bites! No mercinaries, No evil Dead: Regenerations, and what about Pshyconaughts?!

 

Overall the PS3 still has a better selection of games than the 360.

 

BTW. I have a 360 and I plan on getting a PS3 and Wii.

I will likely buy an Xbox360.

 

Why this change of loyalties?

 

Answer: Because the 360 is about £200 cheaper, is already out and has plenty of gameplay support, and the graphics of PS3 games so far don't seem to be reason enough for me to fork out all that extra money.

If I had to choose only 1 of the systems I would have a really really tough time deciding, but I think the combination of the wii and 360 will meet my gaming styles exactly. Just making an educated prediction I figured PS3 will probably have 2-3 exclusive games in its run that I will really want. Ah well, I think I can live with not getting it.

I just wanted to point out how people choose the more expensive stuff like a PC over a PS3 and then cry at how broke they are. Or many an expensive stereosystem or some expensive electronic device higher priced then a PS3.Ya the PS3 is expensive but its expensive for a reason and seeing how these prices and ways the games are used show how the Japanese play it since they're so into games and anime. Well if you hate the PS3 or like it because of the name then your a fanboy noob. I have a Sega Genesis and a N64 so I'm in 3 fields. Here i'll repeat what I said before, I'm only getting the PS3 because my PS2 Slim broke but my fat one still survived (2 PS2s? I blame San Andreas disk error on that) but getting a PS3 is no big deal. My friend is getting a Wii so that is excluded from my list and I know someone who has a Xbox 360 and I tried to win one but that also got excluded from my list.

 

Right.....PS3 is going to lose yet its not out? Only an idiot can say that since we still haven't seen its true side yet since its still on showcase and in shipping boxes. But why do I care I'm busy learning at school and doing co-op and foruming and playing games on my PC  :

well, right now I am playing Lego Star Wars II and having fun on my 360. Still, my kids have more fun with the 360 than i do and they play the downloaded games from live. The full games are for the most part dissapointing.

I've had:

 

NES, Gameboy, Genesis, Gamegear, N64, Dreamcast, PS2, Xbox. I really don't care who makes it, as long as they make quality games I liked. The only one that really disappointed me was the dreamcast, but that was because of its collapse, I enjoyed the games I had for it.

 

I hate to keep saying this, but from my point of view wii and 360 look to be having the most quality and diversity, 360 and PS3 are too close in the game selections so of course I am going to go with the cheaper one.

Wait till the games start coming out requiring the HD-DVD for teh 360 then the total price will be about the same. I do have disagree in that the 360 has the "most quality and diversity". Granted there are some awsome looking games coming for teh 360 but the same can be said for the PS3 and even more so when you see the different types of games coming ranging from eyetoy card games (which looks very cool), Fnal Fantasy XIII, MGS4, and the unknown game I listed above.
