Jedi Master Tofu Posted September 25, 2006 Share Posted September 25, 2006 For the past couple of years, my computer has been making a high-pitched hummming noise when it starts up. The computer will not start up for about 3 min then all of the sudden it will boot up and work normally. I'm not sure what this is. I have checked to see if it was the software installed, my RAM, my fan, or my video card. It was none of them. I will try to post a recording of it if I can get it again. Running off a sound isn't very detail and could be any number of things He says it's not the software installed, RAM, fan, or video card Assuming he's right, and he did checks properly. I'll keep an ear out to see if it does it again. Ill switch between the two drivers for a couple of days to see if it does it anymore. Kelathin Posted September 26, 2006 Share Posted September 26, 2006 Before xp starts it's typically almost all hardware based sounds. It could range from floppy disk to processor fan. Most sounds are lower pitch because they are spinning parts in say the cd rom, high pitch could just be your computer. However assuming it wasn't like that, it is an error. Guest Posted September 27, 2006 Share Posted September 27, 2006 ya know what's weird? my walkman does the same thing, when my sister got an ipod she let me have her walkman and for some odd reason it makes this whiiiiiiiiiiring noise for about 5-8 seconds then it will turn on and work normally, The same thing happens when I turn it off too, it goes whhhhhhhhhhhiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiirrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.... then it turns off......weird Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Sometimes, but it has been doing it for 3 years, long before I started the habit of leaving it in. where do you live exactly? I was thinking about my car in the winter and it makes a similar "whirr"type sound before the engine heats up. Could be just your enviroment I live on the west coast around Portland, Oregon.
