Anime vs Americanized Cartoons

MageLite, I think you're crazy, lol. And you probably think I am...funny how the world works.

 

To be fully honest, I've found that the vast majority of American animation is just plain crap (it's done on the cheap, sometimes in Flash [pathetic], it's stupid, no or little plot, character designs hurt my eyes, voices suck, music sucks, etc.). There are very few that I even consider worth the money it took to make them.

 

There's plenty of duds among anime too, but there are also lots of great anime, and I assure you, they are way better than the best American animation has ever had to offer.

 

bleah, that's what everyone says. My friend is obsessed with these anime movies made by some guy, (I forget his name) like princess mokoknokesomethingnee, and sprited away. I saw them on TV once and I thought they were SCREWED up too. But he says "They are better in Japanese!" Oh okay.  : It's obiviously better that I can't understand them :

 

Hyao Miyazaki movies. Yeah, I hate those too. They bore me and make no sense...gah. : lol

Mostly because the dub'd versions change the text to suit more American sensibilities. While I don't find all of his movies that entertaining, there is a lot of subtle issues brought up in his movies.

 

Most "American" animation is drafted in the US, however the actual animation is done by Korean animation studios.

Actually no not the comedy bit. FLCL is crazy nuts that it actually makes it funny. Anime parodying anime the PROPER way  ;D Do note that this is from what I seen and I got a nice huge list  ;D

Look folks: Anime is not funny. It is not cool, the plots are crap, and often so too is the animation (what's wrong with flash anyway? It looks a lot cleaner than traditional animation). End of story. It is pure crapness. I know someone will point out I'm a fan of M.E.G.A.S but it's got plenty of humour aside from referances (no-one can fail to laugh at a four foot unicron with a moustache, and inferiority complex and a mexican accent. My favourite episode.) Please.

 

Perhaps it's because I have some anti-anime bias myself. Something to do with their popularity with knuckleheads resulting in shows having to be, to quote Tim Buckley, like some extreme bastardized version of shitty anime."

Traditional and digital animation both look way better than anything done in flash. Believe me, I've watched hundreds of examples of all three and thus can be a good judge on that aspect.

 

And if the plots suck in anime (and some do suck, that's true of EVERYTHING), at least they have a damn plot.

 

And when an anime is trying to be funny, it is. American is rarely funny except when doing slack-jawed redneck bs that people with half a brain are gonna smirk at b/c of it's sheer stupidity. Then again, I have a bias, so you won't listen anyway.

 

And trust me. Watch a good anime, and you'll see that the good ones are cool. Btw, don't watch any put on normal tv here b/c those are crap (due to choice by the station as well as usually severe editing of both PLOT and JOKES and much of the script).

Let me see...I watched a good bit of Fullmetal alchemist. Also Azumungah daioh. Heard both were good.

I would then recommend Gantz, Fate/Stay Night, Eureka Seven, Rahxephon, and Hellsing. I do recommend watching any one of those till the end and if you don't like any of those then wow you truely must be bias. If you can't downloaded then hook up with someone you know who watched it and again watch till the end and tell me what you think.  If you don't like it and say anime purely sucks then well, whatever its only one person.

Sorry Ghostly, but when all the animes I've seen, be it television, dvd or internet, dubbed or subtiltled, have been flaming piles of crap, I really don't wish to have to sit through anymore oriental mind-numbing. The only anime I've ever enjoyed was DBZ, and that was purely for the whole 'so bad it's good' factor (the voice actors must have been constipated to make all those grunts...)

You'd think they'd run out of wastelands with mountains in them because they are always being thrown into mountains of rock and destroying them, and making huge craters in the the wastelands with thier explosive constipation  And what like every character has died at least 3 times and they somehow come back to life

Like I said...I enjoyed it because I found it's sheer horridness rib-ticklingly funny.

Hey, it was either DBZ or Sailor Moon *let the laughter commence* that was my first anime.  Of course, I have forsaken them.  Sometimes I watch DBZ if it's on and I got nothing better to do.  My main anime nowadays is Ranma 1/2.

Those shows were horrible, yes.  DBZ, being is.  But, I did see the very end of DBZ, and all it's subvariants.  Dragonball (the original) was barely standable, but still like DBZ.

Eh, I feel sorry for one of my friends. He a complete Inuyasha fanatic, and gets his older sister to pick up subtiltled videos he buys from the states (you can't get them in the UK) but in return he had to watch a sailor moon video with her XD

they came back becayuse they found all the dragon balls and made a wish to being them back or w/e

I used to like anime when I was like 12  My favorite was called like "Big O" or something like that. And I watched zoids too, I liked that one. The only anime I liked where ones with giant robots. But after a while I started to see how repetive and corny they were so I stopped watching them.  It all appears the same to me now.

Zoids...oh yeah...I used to watch that Religiously.  It was my absolute FAVORITE show for a while...then they had to be jerks and make a new one, and ruin the series.
