SWR Staff - Executive Evaders99 Posted September 20, 2006 Author SWR Staff - Executive Posted September 20, 2006 Alright Fosh. You made me feel bad for a little because I've really been the only one not sleeping, trying to restore all the website services. Thanxs for the support though z3r0x I'll look into the avatar issue. This is running the latest SMF 1.1 RC3 forums, so there maybe some bugs they have not fixed. z3r0x Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 Evaders.... not sure if you checked. I tar'd each database... then I placed all the tar files in one big tar. PFF's db was fully intact when I recovered it. Some others in the mySQL directory were not. However that was due to half the content in /var being totally corrupted and useless.
SWR Staff - Executive Evaders99 Posted September 20, 2006 Author SWR Staff - Executive Posted September 20, 2006 Avatars should have the proper permissions now Evaders99http://swrebellion.com/images/banners/rebellionbanner02or6.gif Webmasterhttp://swrebellion.com/images/banners/swcicuserbar.png Administrator Fighting is terrible, but not as terrible as losing the will to fight.- SW:Rebellion Network - Evaders Squadron Coding -The cake is a lie.

jedi_consulor Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 It might take a bit of work to get the site to back where it was I think so many posts and threads lost as well as user accounts (including mine) was lost - the forums seem very still at the moment going to have to work on getting people backand re gain peoples confidence in the site. http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e99/drone_pilot/JC_Sig.jpg Sote Mod Website @ http://sote-mod.com/forum/index.php?act=home
Foshjedi2004 Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 Well me and z3r0x were just talking about that... Should we take a collection and get Vbulliten? http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa197/knivesdamaster/tags/sith_omguserbar_member.jpg
z3r0x Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 Vbullletin is VERY stable not to mention its better looking, safer and has MUCH more functionality.
VZaknaril Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 I know I am new around here but I posted many times before the crash and this site was something I enjoyed contributing to. I'm pretty bummed about losing all my posts, so I wanted to let you guys know I would be willing to contribute to the purchase of the new bulletin board system. Contact me via email when the times comes, along with what the cost will be and I will do what I can. http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m83/qalsip/zak1_demo.jpghttp://miniprofile.xfire.com/bg/sf/type/2/zaknaril.png
SWR Staff - Executive Evaders99 Posted September 20, 2006 Author SWR Staff - Executive Posted September 20, 2006 Personally I'd rather not switch to any licensed software. It is more for me to deal with, especially with unfamiliar mods and support. I'd rather see a full portal site, if you want to expand on the capabilities of PFF. Consider where you want to go, do you want to keep making subforums for all kinds of games? It seems that "Petroglyph Fan Forums" would be a misnomer then. Rather stick what you do best with the audience you have, and you'll do well like Relicforums has done for their site. I'm inclined to go with phpBB/phpNuke - that is what is powering most of the sites and that is what I am most familiar with. Even our backend is synchronized for user sharing, so you can easily go from the main SWR site to our other sites. I run the central files, updates, maintainence, and everything. It is quite slick for those who are not code hackers and don't need to look at code. SWR Staff - Executive Evaders99 Posted September 20, 2006 Author SWR Staff - Executive Posted September 20, 2006 On the look, I'm hoping for something clean and easy to look at. While the graphics are nice to make it stand out, the content is really what is important. If we have large headers and images everywhere, it would make the forums cumbersome to navigate and use. Simple functionality over flashy graphics. I don't mind SMF as it is now. VZaknaril Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 PHPbb is a nice forum. I use it for my clan (www.mandalorrising.com/forum) and have had great success with mods and changing things (a basic knowledge of HTML is all you need to change things on your own as the source is a modified version of HTML) on my own. Administrator control panel is nice as well. As far as the look, I have made extensive modifications to mine (found a decent template and modified it after that) so anyone can do it. On a side note: are you guys making progress restoring the database? I know it's tedious work (I have gone through that myself) so I'm not nagging at all. Just wondering if I can expect my contributions to the forum to return or if they are lost forever? http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m83/qalsip/zak1_demo.jpghttp://miniprofile.xfire.com/bg/sf/type/2/zaknaril.png
Eric072691 Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 They'll fix it sooner or later, I hope. Didn't I sign-up before April 2006 or was the backup from April 2005?Oh well, It doesn't matter, I just want my mapping tutorial back. I guess I'll have to go and find it. http://img86.imageshack.us/img86/8752/sigsf6.gifWhen your outnumbered, you've got more targets to shoot AND less chance of missing.
swfan654 Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 bah I dont really care about post count or losing an account, only takes like 2 minutes to register Im more dissapointed in the content lost too..... really, really hope that can be fixed... ......eventually.. http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n115/swfan654/swf4.jpg
