Get past the first book. Seriously, just put it down when you're done and go straight into Star by Star. That's where NJO really climaxs, that and Destiny's Way. Really the series just shines, awesome writers and storyline.

 

Chewie's death was planned.. and not by Salvatore. He was made to write it, and I think he gave Chewie a very noble death. His death symbolized that no character was invincible in NJO, something that plagues the Star Wars universe throughout the novels. There are too many superheros and not enough "real" characters.

What are you talking about?!  I LOVED Star by Star!  It was the best book in the NJO series in my opinion.  Did you even tread the other ones first?  So you could get what was going on?

I've read every NJO book except for The Unifying Force and Traitor. I like the series as a whole and like the story of Star by Star, but I just don't like Troy Dennning's writing. Star by Star would've been good if some one else wrote it....

    The first NJO book I read was Traitor. And only because I liked Matt stover's other books. Then I dimly recalled reading uhhhhh..... what was that one called......................................thinking.................. the one after star by star I think it was one of stackpole's books............... It had an X-wing on the front cover.................... I don't remember the name. Anyway so The very first one I read was that mysterious one that I can't remember the name of. I was like 11 years old at the time and I had already read the X-wing books so I decided to read that one because it had an X-wing on the front. Then I got bored with it after I finished it. Then all these years later I read traitor then I decided to read the whole freaking series. Ive read em all except for perhaps some of the more important ones which my library didn't seem to have. I missed "The Final Prophecy" and "Yleisa". It had a really anti-climactic ending 

Star by Star was really boring, I didn't even want to feel sorry for anakin when he died. I didn't like the solo children in the first place  and somehow the book seemed like anakin's death was pointless. Sure the "voxyn" were bad. But the book didn't really seem to make them bad-enough-that-they-really-needed-to-be-destroyed kind of bad.

i own over 100 of the EU novels and have read them all at least once.

there are certain series i can't get hold of and other like the DN that i wish to forget. yeah i find Star by Star boring.

As boring as Balance Point?

If you're more for the traditional 'SW heroes and starships kicking @ss' - then Destiny's Way would probably be more to your liking. It was a great book, but I felt the character climax was really through Star by Star.

 

I do think NJO series as a whole was done well, though I found some of the books more interesting than others. The ending was sort of a let-down, but I hope more of the issues are resolved in the Legacy era.

Destiny's way and Unifying Force are the best 2 of the NJO Era.
