VileMrrrgh Posted March 24, 2006 Posted March 24, 2006 Hey guys, I am trying something new.....everytime I install patch 1.3 all my mods go away. I think it is because I do not have an XML file in GameData/Data.....so I plan on doing that but my question is how do I extract/insert just, say for example, spaceunitsfrigates.xml, and insert just that one particular file into xml without recompressing the entire config file?
MajorPayne Posted March 24, 2006 Posted March 24, 2006 Well once you've extracted the CONFIG.MEG file just make the necessary subfolders and then transfer the single file to it. Just as a suggestion. Copy/paste each file BEFORE editing it. At least you've got the originals then if you make any kind of mistake.
VileMrrrgh Posted March 24, 2006 Author Posted March 24, 2006 do you think that this is the reason that my mods go away whenever I download a patch, b/c I do not have all my modded xml's in a seperate file?
MajorPayne Posted March 24, 2006 Posted March 24, 2006 Not sure, but with the correct folder structure, even installing a new patch shouldnt' effect a mod if the mod only alters the MEG files.
VileMrrrgh Posted March 25, 2006 Author Posted March 25, 2006 Well i am gonna work on it, I appreciate your help
VileMrrrgh Posted March 26, 2006 Author Posted March 26, 2006 OK....so the new deal is that I have a XML file inside my gamedata/data file and after I downloaded the new pathc 1.3, my ships no longer spawn the fighters that they used to. I am the Rebels btw. All I have in the XML file is spaceunits frigates, capitals, and hardpoints as that is all that you need in order make it work in the first place. Here is what I have done, maybe I have just missed a step, really do not feel like loading the game again.1. Used meg extractor to extract the confi.meg file2. made the changes to xml files3.copied changed xml files and pasted them in new xml folder. do I have to use the inserter on the xml folder, if so how???
MajorPayne Posted March 26, 2006 Posted March 26, 2006 No sure what you mean by an "inserter", but I just copy/paste the XML files into the necessary folder.
VileMrrrgh Posted March 27, 2006 Author Posted March 27, 2006 I figured it out...when I was copying and pasting, I never changed the name of the .xml's I left them that "data%%script%%uniqueunits.xml.......I did not know that I need to change the name.....again major payne(great movie btw) thanks for all your help
