Now I've noticed that theres alot of modders who have made non buildable units, buildable, and whilst this is all very well, is there a generic tutorial which gives you exact details of what to add to each entry?? Whilst I can get units to spawn I'm still having trouble getting them to be buildable.

 

(Also if some kind sole would post the necessary tutorial it would help alot more aspiring modders than just myself).

Okay, someone move this to tutorials or sticky it or something:

 

To add a unit, you need to edit or add the following lines:

Tech Level

Build Cost Credits

Build Time Seconds

Build Tab Space/Land Units (space for space units, land for land units)

 

Set Tech Level to anything from 1-5 for empire and 0-4 for rebel. 0 for empire will still be unbuildable, this is important to remember.

 

Set Build Cost Credits to anything you want except 0, which again, will leave it unbuildable.

 

Set Build Time Seconds to anything except 0. Once again, 0 will leave it unbuildable.

 

Set Build Tab Space/Land Units to 'Yes'.

 

This should put the unit in-game.

Additionally you can make a unit buildable in skirmish by editing the Special Structures XML. (You could also make a unit buildable during a battle in a campaign mode as well).

Here's just a little more to help out

 

: this tags determines which row the object appear on in the build tab (ie. 1 = unit row, 0 = structure row)

: if an item is buildable and this is 'no' and isn't used then it defaults to the land build tab.

 

An example of making the unit buildable by the empire in skirmish games is to add this (just replace empire with rebel for them to build it);

        Empire,

        Pengauani_Squad,

 

It should be noted that the following tags overide/replace their equivelent tags in skirmish games

          is how huch it costs

            how long it takes to build at normal game speed

              what is required to build this ie. a specific upgrade

              can be 'Tactical_Units' for right side production queue or 'Tactical_Upgrades' for left side production queue

 

I've also included a example of the basic minimum for building a new space unit on the galactic map (the unit is unable to enter combat or enter hyperspace on its own unless it is in a fleet with a unit which CAN enter hyperspace)

I'm trying to make a new space unit, I just copied the generic star destroyer entry and changed the name, scale, shield power etc, and added text entries to the dat file, i also made it only buildable on corellia. It won't show up in game however.

Did you change the Tech Level? It's set to 99 on Generic_Star_Destroyer and it'll have to be reduced to 1-5 if you want to build it.
