new ships getting blasted mod

Recommended Posts

just wondering with mods for imp ass 2 and leg of war both are doing new ships for the game.

fine , great

but how are you going to make these modles look like there getting bits blasted off them? like in eaw when hardpoints ans such are hit.

All you really need to make it look like the hardpoint is gone is to make an explosion on the hardpoint and darken it.  So really it's not completely necessary to make it so bits blast off them.  Having them blow off is kinda unrealistic, because the hardpoint comes off like its been cut instead of blasted off.

it wont be that hard because u have to model that part of the ship seperately.. so what u do is model it while the ship is intact.. maybe then u can take part of the side out.. make it a battery.. and texture it.. give it a backside so it doesnt look invisible and make that part of the ship u took out.. make the back look like its got metal girders or something .. and then u just tell the game where they go. .like a jigsaw puzzle

No...

they actually make several models...One complete then one with a piece missing.. then another with more and so on. Then the the models are swapped in game via scripting. Thats how most games do it.....

The models in EaW have "bones," which are normally used in animation.  Pieces can be attached to these bones so that they line up correctly, but then these pieces can be easily seperated.

Just look in the XML file for the hard points.  Each hardpoint is attached to a specific bone.

Nope. During retexture testing on new copies of models, I found out the hardpoints are individual pieces attached to the base model. I forgot to tell the hardpoints to reference the new texture, so I had a black Star Destroyer with white-grey hardpoints...kinda wierd looking. The only model swapping (I think) is the death-clones of ships.
