Delphi-PG Posted March 8, 2006 Posted March 8, 2006 I'm working on a new multiplayer map that incorporates the single-player pop cap mechanic with reinforcement points. It is a test and by no means will we rework all the old MP maps. I just want to see what you guys think about the idea. Thoughts? Delphi-PGGame Designer/Community Rephttp://www.petroglyphgames.com
plokoon9619 Posted March 8, 2006 Posted March 8, 2006 you should 1st make it so people without ced can play with ced maps but not host them.
marine436 Posted March 8, 2006 Posted March 8, 2006 we want a 44 planet mplayer campegian man, a few of them accually, some where the entire galaexy is rebel or empire, like the single player one and some like where all are pirates save the starting 6-8 just imho although i know some agree, gl on whatever you do deplhi i wasent really sure your orginal question, land skirmish? or galatic?

sagboy Posted March 8, 2006 Posted March 8, 2006 Like the fact that you are trying a new map test but how about you fix the crappy multiplayer. Its a toss up whether or not you can actually get more than 2 people to play a game. Its like 50/50 if everyone can connect, and sometimes I cant connect to people that I have played with about a billion times in the past. Or fix the ingame MP featers so that you can properly kick, or unaccpet yourself to change emprie to rebel or vice versa. Or fix the times when the game lags like a powerpoint slide show, not do to the graphics on the screen but do to the crappy netcode that is plauging the game. Or the fact that some guys you can find by name or some guys you cant join because it says 48/8 players. Or how about the quick game function, when you have it set to 1vs1 space battle and somehow you connect to a 2vs2 land battle? Seriously there are a lot of issues just with MP, seems like you guys just found a quick answer (Gamespy) and tacked it on. I think first and formost you guys need to fix the MP, at least have a direct connect option. It shouldnt be that hard, just copy bnet. Or those mod tools, as Im sure this game will be awsome when we have those mod tools, as so many people have such great looking mods to implement but cant. If we had a rough release date for the tools that would be awsome. Or how about fixing the game so that we can choose which ships we bring in, instead of the computer choosing to bring in a set amount of ships. I dont know about you but I would liek to bring in my cruisers and frigates first, lighten up the defenses then bring in my mon cals. Too many times all my y wings are brought in and just destroyed right away because you get rushed by anti fighter cruisers. YOu fix this and you will be my hero. Dont mean to sound so negitive but there are soooo many issues that plauge an awsome game that if they were fixed it would make this game phenominal.Or those mod tools, as Im sure this game will be awsome when we have those mod tools, as so many people have such great looking mods to implement but cant. If we had a rough release date for the tools that would be awsome.
Cobra848 Posted March 8, 2006 Posted March 8, 2006 It all depends on how it is done. I assume it is for Land Skirmish and/or Land Control. Will the pop cap still be a max of ten or will it go up. Lets say someone loses all of their reinforcement points on the map and they have stock pile of units that he didn't get on the map before he lost the RPs. Will they be able to bring in more then just three or four units that the home base RP has. Only being able to fight with a small amount of units to defend and take back RPs might be strange. One of the units would have to be infantry to take back an RP. And the rest to support that infantry unit and/or defend the base. Of course the maps will be well thought out, so it easy to fight back and take back RPs. It depends on how many units you can have from your main reinforcement point. I think I may have made it sound more harder then it would be, but I am just thinking of the worst. Land control is already about map control, and it sounds like it will be the same way just you have to destroy the enemy base with your advantage. It's hard to assume if this will have a positive or negative effect; since I haven't played or I don't have enough details to make the right assumption. If you describe all the details or give us a scenario what can happen, the better feedback we can give. sagboy,This topic isn't about that, he is asking for opinions on the idea of new gameplay feature. There is a whole team working on the game. The fixes will come, this is just not the place to discuss it. Heck we have a whole sub-fourm about it. sagboy Posted March 8, 2006 Posted March 8, 2006 Granted but I havent seen a petrograph guy come in that forum and talk about the issues as of late. Seeing as I have one right here that started a new thread as of today, seems like the best opportunity.
Popcorn2008 Posted March 8, 2006 Posted March 8, 2006 I like the idea, it adds more of an importance of gaining reinforcment points. If you were to, you should make it a new category or something, that would be nice. I'd play it! ;D http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/3269/pffuserbar2globalmodnx9.jpg> Petroglyph Forums Moderator> LucasForums Moderator

MajorPayne Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 Delphi. Is it actually possible to make the maps much, much larger?? Perhaps two of three times their original size?? The current way that using more than 2 players is extremely strange, and single starting points for all players would be more useful. Also it would still be great to have some sort of diplomacy and unit experience in the game. It might teach players to look after thier normal playing units.
The_talented Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 delphi is the game your talking about a space skirmish, land skirmish, campaign? or what???
