Activating mod?

I must be dumb, or something. Because I successfully extracted all the game XML files onto my desktop, I tweaked them to my liking, but I didn't see any effect in game. Is there something that I have to do or activate in order for my mod to work?

They already were in the Data/XML/Data folder...I extracted the files with Dante's extractor onto my desktop, opened up each file with notepad, edited away, then saved. No effect in the game.

You should have to.  The Xml folder is basically the uncompressed version of the one in config.meg.  You add the edited XML's to it.  Naja, are the edited files still on your desktop, or are they in the EAW folder?
