I don't think it was biased. It wasn't the greatest of movies, but then again, the judges usually tend to choose more artsy movies. :

It's not just star wars, king kong and war of the worlds weren't in there either. Whoever is in charge of the acadamey awards just hates movies that actully involve the use of imagination. Most of the nominated movies are just boring ones about so and so falling in love out in the middle of no where who sometimes is a cowboy or has mental problems

Considering George Lucas is famous for working outside of Hollywood and denouncing it, it's not surprising that Hollywood would ignore his existence. Hollywood sucks.
