Re: Expansion -nearly- confirmed

Recommended Posts

How may times do I have to say it, where does the Clone Wars fit into Empire at War? lol

Even Delphi has recognized this, it doesn't have to do with the timeline the game is in. The devs have also mentioned they want to make a series out of the Star Wars saga. I doubt they would want to wrap most of it into one full game and an expansion. They want it to be a multiple game series. The Clone wars era would be much better done as a full game then as an expansion, an expansion would not be able to include everything.

The title could also be (don't laugh): "Empire at War Expansion Pack: Republic at War"

Yea, but why would you want to take out your best prospect for a new game in a series and make it an expansion?

You don't make a civil war game and then come out with the WWI expansion.

Actually you do in this case, although if they make an expansion and they make it poorly, i can expect law suits from LA.

Person B: Wheres the Emperor, anyway?

Person A: The Emperor is currently at Nal Hutta.

Person B: I don't think he'd be at Nal Hutta it has a swamp.

Person A: Whats wrong with a swamp?

Person B: Well its the Emperor, he would never touch a swamp as hes well the Emperor.

Person A: Your right...

Person B: Instead he'd make a super weapon to destroy the swamp, it'd probably be called the Plunginator!!!!

Person A: Huh?

Person B: Lol....

True, you're point about EMPIRE at War is right. It is about that.  I guess i dont have much of an

arguement for that.  Just still would like to see if from start to finish.

EU was made by writers NOT Lucasarts. Anything star wars should be done by Lucasarts only,

thats just my opinion and i will never waiver from it.  EU i have read some, good, some bad.  Still

not completely orchestrated , even though approved by George himself, still not Lucas.

EU games is interesting in itself i suppose.  But for this i'm just wanting the clone wars era added

into this game, and continue up to RoTj.

But  you are again right, if you have a civil war game, do you make a revolutionary game expansion.

Probably not, but then just make a game like "rise of nations" and go from beginning to end.  Expansion

in their world was just more civs and governments.

EIther way, i'm happy with EMPIRE at war, guess it should of been named something else so we can have

all eras :)  PLus expansions can be named  something else, Republic at War.  Universe at War. etc.

"This expansion changes Empire At War into a universal game adding the First 3 episodes of star wars into it" that would probably be the expansion description, and nothing would be wrong with that. Edited by Venrai

George Lucas disregards the EU. You want proof? Here you go:

http://www.mtv.com/movies/movie/237059/news/articles/1501522/story.jhtml

That's it exactly. EU books are not written by George Lucas, and therefore, are not canon. I do consider the EU along with KOTOR as Star Wars history, but if Big G didn't write it, it's not canon.

I don't think so:

Star Wars Insider #45, pg. 21:

"Part of the job of the director is to sort of keep everything in line, and I can do that in the movies—but I can't do it on the whole Star Wars universe."

Then there's an old-school SW comic interview:

"Star Words", Dec 1977, Star Wars #6, from editor Archie Goodwin

"Far from simply batting out the STAR WARS comic as you suggest, Roy spent (as did Howie) long hours for no pay at the Lucasfilm offices on the Universal movie-lot, talking with writer/director Lucas and with media projects director Charles Lippincott about the way the series should be handled. He's spent more hours with them, as well as the movie's stars Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford, since then, getting all the feedback he can on how things should go in future stories. Since both movie and paperback sequels are projected and George naturally wishes to keep them all consistent, this is a far more complicated project even than writing/editing books like CONAN or TARZAN, let alone other comic-mags."

Basically, the situation today is like the situation 30 years ago, Lucas has people to take care of overall continuity of the SW universe, and will sometimes work with an author on a project. Non-movie stories are part of the overall continuity unless Lucas wants something else. It's as simple as that, and it doesn't require anyone to be forced to accept it. :P

Lucasarts is strictly video games, not books and other star wars material. They both have their approval boards. Lucasarts approves what is put in the games. A panel under Lucas decides what can be put into books. For the most part stuff is made up for the video games and books, but Lucasarts and the panel get final say in what makes it in.

Hold on, I'm confuzzled. I thought that all sw things are owned by Lucasarts. Their name is on everything starwars, not just games.

EU is still of writers making

up their own stuff.

That is complete BS. Not any writer is accepted, and all even somewhat major plot points are reviewed by people at Lucasarts directly supervised by Lucas. They cant do anything they want, not by a long shot. Yes, Lucas sometimes spits on shoddy EU, but all the works done by authors like Zhan and Stackpole and Allstan have not been contradicted in any way I know of. Read the interview with Lucento at the end of The Unifying Force.

Nope, you wont find Lucasarts on everything star wars. What you are thinking of is Lucasfilm LTD. They are the ones that control everything star wars (as well as Indiana Jones and a few others). There are divisons inside of Lucasfilm such as Lucasarts (video games), Lucas Licensing (Toys), and Lucas Books (of course, books). Now they all run and make their own decisions for the most part, usually have other companies do most the stuff (Hasbro and Del Rey). Rarely do they have to get every little thing approved by Lucasfilm LTD (that is what the divisions are for), they just put the stamp of approval on it.

OK everybody, think about this for a second....

Not that it's out of the question now, but honestly, there few people that are actually familiar with the era, leaving most of the game's fanbase behind. It's just not considered canon by most people because most of it's just in books that even George Lucas himself disregards.

The fact that it's most unfamiliar means that you'll get the most new materials over it. If you want the movies, watch the movies.

Even so, how much new stuff would that actually be? I mean, Super Star Destroyers (possibly), TIE Interceptors, a few new heroes, some new planets and a few other misc. units. That's really all that's left out of the OT movies and the EU. (And then of course, there's the Remnant's seemingly endless supply of Death Star wanna-be superweapons. :P)

Play Warlords for HW2. Come back. Talk to me when you are informed.

Well.....that was not the random quote of the day. Try to keep it on subject.

If there is going to be an expansion pack, Petro should hire the Legacy of War staff to help them, as they are good at what they do and know the Star Wars history to go along with it.

It is the site for the old rebellion game.  It's been updated to add other mods (notably the homeworld mods) but you can still upload cards and models for Rebellion.

Mighty fine site too...

But back to the thread - NO CLONE WARS.

As for new time scales not selling...  the Kotor argument blows that out of the water.  I'd love to see EaW: Sith War.  I'd also love EaW: Warlords.  My fear is that they will try EaW: Vong Wars (it's depth would get lost in this game engine) but the novelty would be fun for a few plays.

As for Lucas being canon and everything else being rubbish.  Lucas contradicts himself in canon (did Han shoot first?), and his best work was when he worked with others because they contributed ideas and smoothed over his rough spots.

Frankly, many of the books blow the prequels out of the water.  Zahn's work is the obvious choice, but even the Medistar stuff had more depth and exposition.

I don't get the fetish for Lucas=The Word.  He had a great idea, and it has gone beyond him just as his great idea stole from other great ideas.  He's a link in a chain, not the whole steel factory.

So something contradicts him... heck, that could mean it is an improvement ;)

Obviously there are some qualities that he likes in him. Or what he did that fasinates him.

Anyway....back on subject: I don't really want an expansion. If Legacy of War is going to add all the things after the BOY(battle of yavin), why do we need an expansion?

A clone wars one would be pointless. Going back even further could be cool(i.e. Sith Wars or Mandalorian Wars)

hm i dont agree dorkthehunter, an expansion pack can add stuff you cant modd in, like being able to talk an enemy planet in joining you (i cant remember the word)

or more official units and stuff like that, altough i would LOVE  to see the stuff of the KOTOR series

Exactly, I doubt many of us want an expansion for the new units, becuase they will all be modded in with mods. We want the expansion for unit experience, diplomacy, and 2vs2 galactic campaigns, stuff that can't be modded in.
