New HUGE SWG Rumor.

There is a rumor circulating around right now that Lucasarts finally got fed up with Sony Online Entertainment hosting the game and is going to dump them and have a new company host it.

The current plan is to bring the game back to pre CU and Pre NGE time.

I personally would rather see them scrap the game entirely and start working on SWG 2 with a brand new company.

I wouldnt be surprised if this were true. They lost over 100k in subscriptions, and on more than one occasion Lucasarts has hinted that they haven't been impressed at all with SoE

Yes yes finally  ;D Now lets push to dump SWG once and for all and make a perfect "Star Wars World". Btw has to be free like Guild Wars or it is going to look grim for massive online games to survive since theres so many and so little time.

Someone "in the know" posted it on the SWG forum. It was promptly deleted. I read it on another forum, where a mod went delete happy and deleted it, haha.

Is it true? who knows. The major thing that most people are saying is SOE licensing runs out this month and Lucasarts did not renew it or SOE loses the rights to the game after subscriptions drop below a certain point.

I also guess Lucasarts is starting a focus group in California on the game and is paying $125 for fans to sound off on the game.

These of course sound like conspiracy theories, but the path the game has taken it seems very likely.

This dosnt suprise me, now i didnt mind the NGE the thing is that thier simply isnt enough people playing the game and the economy is total down, which means you cant by squat all stuff for your ships, thiers no one to group with to do missions for Space Piloting Proffesion etc etc etc.

I havent played SWG now for half a Year and i hope it gets scraped and an SWG is to be made hopefuly with co-operation with maybe Blizzard :D with making a SWG 2 but hey i hope Lucas Arts gives Sony a Slap that they never forget.

Some thoughts on jedi in a Star Wars MMO.  They are good warriors and almost everyone wants to be swinging a lightsaber.  In a future MMO there should be no jedi profession.  Instead when on a server and creating a player for the first time there should be a die roll (with near impossible odds) for force sensitivity.  That way it would be random and you wouldn't have a bunch of wannabee jedi running around.

Also I think if they would have intersteller trade and combat that it should be purely user skill based so that it wouldn't just be the person with the highest level character and best equipment (just like the Alliance vs Empire).

In my opinion jedi should only be NPCs period.

If you did the roll of the die thing then the people who got it would just end up selling their accounts for thousands and thousands of dollars. So the only people playing jedi would be the wealthy pretty much.

i will never play thse kinda games, the people who do... well they obvious have to much money!

anyway the type of these kinda games isnt my thing but hey! if you got to much money send me a pm and i tell you my bank acount feel free to deposit whatever you want

Its not that much money. To pay for a month of it is a little more than an hour of my work. Playing 4 months of it is equivlant too getting a new game every 4 months (and I am sure most of us do that) and if you play a good enough one you will get a lot of new content in that time that will allow for a new play experience.

but still if you pay a year every month... you can buy new hardware to upgrade your computer

Just depends how you like to spend your money. Playing with a group of friends in an online community can be a lot of fun. And like I said, it isn't that much per month, want to know how much paying for gas costs me in a year? I only upgrade my computer when I need to, I don't like upgrading it constantly when some new hardware comes out, because what is the point, it is just going to be outdated in a few months by the new model.

They should just scrap Star Wars Galaxies and start over from scratch, maybe get the guys that make EVE Online to work up the space combat, vehicles, and trade system.  EVE Online ROCKS!  Get someone else to work up the ground side of things, someone that knows what they're doing.  Or have two MMORPG, one space based, one ground based.

i disagree with you people. Why the hel should they make 2 diffrent 'games' when they can do that in LOTS and LOTS and LOTS of expansion packs? huh huh uh?

Because SWG has a really bad reputation out their right now, mainly because of the way SOE has handled the game. If there was a way to mess it up, they did. While giving the game to another company is a great idea, just giving them SWG (a game that is all screwed up and they have never worked on before) will take a long time to fix, if it is completely fixable at all, and even if they did not many people will return just because they have returned many times before to "fixes" and were disapointed.

What they need to do is give the rights to a new company and have them build it from the ground up, taking the good parts of swg and makiing it their own.

This is in relation to that other SWG rumor thread, but this new one is so big it needs its own seperate thread.

Im not going into any details as I dont want any hints to my sources but here goes....

LA pulled the license from SOE. The rumors about February were dead right. SOE was allowed time to transition players (how much is unknown) to their other station pass games. Thats why they stopped selling SWG prepaid cards.

Publish 28, if it gets done will be the last publish to the game. There is a minimal support staff now working on it. Its purely cosmetic changes to keep existing players subscribing

Bioware did indeed gain rights to develop a second version of SWG. It wont be called SWG2. Its not a completely new game but rather a reworking of existing code. Bioware is currently hiring a large team to work on the game and prefer experience with SWG. Pre-cu is a plus

The focus groups information was handed basically directly to Bioware. Some of the questions, like a KOTOR experience were hints to you folks as to who was behind it.

My source  or sources only stated what they know. They didnt speculate on how long development would take. No clue on the rumors if its tied into a television show. No clues on pre-cu, cu, etc. And finally, no clue on an announcement or what SOE will say about this.

I trust this source's info 100%. Believe what you will but it looks like SOE's tyranny is over

;D The last one was right, SOE is being dropped! And in bigger new Bioware is going to be working on it!  :)
