How does it work to have allies? is it like all rebels vs. Empire so, like the 4 Rebels, vs the 4 empire ppl?

Yes.  When you start a skirmish all Empire players and all Rebel players are allied with each other (no mixing sadly) and they share a space station or base.

And the income speed is shared with the same person and the upgrades. So one person could go out scouting and builds troops while other just upgrades and guards. Its better this way I think since it spares map size but I say the maps could have been bigger
