How do you change the textures for ships?

 

And where are the icon targa files, I can't find them anywhere...

 

And does anyone know how to change laser/engine glow colors?

I was looking for them too in the demo... couldn't find them but I did find that all the icons on the command bar come from one file.  Textures are stored as DDS files apparently, you'll need to get a DDS converter.

Have a dds converter (it's so awesome) and have already changed certain textures, and found those icons, but in the xml files each ship has an Icon_Name (or something like that) and the ref file is always something like rv_moncal_cruiser.tga.

Laser colours are very easily changed... there is a line in the projectile definition which reads something like (don't have EaW here so it may be slightly different)

Make sure this is set to 2, add it if you must, then there is another line which defines colour. Look through the projectiles for it, I can't remember the exact syntax. Anyways, it has 4 numbers which correspond to R, G, B, alpha. It's a simple matter of tweaking that.

 

Haven't looked at engine glow, but I will as soon as I fix my computer.

Look at .MTD.

 

Same problem I have been bitching about for a while now. I know how to edit them, I pinpointed it down to the .MTD file. But there is no decoder/encoder for that format as of yet. Basically, that TGA you talked about is a fake one. It is a fake name, but it is referenced in pixel locations within the .MTD file. What it references to? That large TGA/DDS master file. Someone needs to crack this MTD format for us to be able to accurately edit the GUI.
