A flaw I just realized in the Imperial fighter system

Is that since Star Destroyers only launch a certain portion of their fighter compliment at once (at most, 2 TIEs and 1 Bomber), combined with the very limited population cap, the Empire is going to have a hard time maintaining numerical superiority with its TIEs against Rebel fighters.

At most, let's just say that you're going crazy for TIEs, you bring in 10 Victory Star Destroyers for a maximum of 70 TIE squadrons. Now, that certainly sounds impressive! But in truth, only two of each Destroyer's fighter compliment is ever released at once. So you really have 20 TIE Fighters at once. Still pretty impressive.

But half of that (about <10) in X-Wings, and even LESS in A-Wings will take down each successive wave of those TIE Fighters with little to no problem. And given the horrible innacuracy of Imperial ships that we have now (please God tell me that that's just a demo bug!), there's even less advantage to Imperial numbers.

So now what do we have? If we have to lug around the obligatory Tartan cruisers (which, unlike fighters, will get pummelled by capital ship fire), what good are TIEs, which are useless unless in overpowering numbers (and even then, the most overpowering of numbers may not be enough)??

What TIEs are for? Very simple:

To bind rebel fighters in melee space combat and then bring you Tartans or Boadsides into firing position (rebel fighters really are like flies to those...) Of course these ships (Tartan, Broadside) don't stand long versus capital ships but you have to take care of your units. This is what in general is called tactic or in internet language "skill" ;)

Problem with that is that for some reason, luxury liners converted into warships seem to have an incredibly higher hit rate vs these built from the ground up warships.... this is a very very nasty problem if the demo is not the only place this occurs.  The capital ships are not the only ones with this problem.  The Tartan cruiser has a hard time hitting rebel fighters at all.  The rebel fighters should survive more hits by far than tie fighters due to shields, but the ties don't even have their maneuverability.  The blockade runner has an order of magnitude more accuracy than the Tartan and this doesn't match up well given the relative power of their targets.

I think that the main way to solve this problem would simply be to up the space pop cap.

More Star Destroyers = more TIE Fighters. End of argument, eh?

If you want more TIE Fighters why dont you just increase the amount of fighters they spawn at the start of battle?

problem solved

Well, neither of these address the underpinning issue.  As Joebwan pointed out, the release version should be used to evaluate whether or not this has been taken care of satisfactorily.
