X-Wing ground assaults?

Hello folks, just cruising the interweb and found a few shots that caught my attention.

So, I'm sure you have noticed these x-wings are zooming around on a land map. This caught my attention as i know that y-wings are used for bombing runs on the ground maps, soooo my question is:-

 

Q) What in all that is holy are X-Wings doing on a land map?

 

Have i missed something? Ive done a search on our forum and found nothing in regards to a x-wing ground attack!

 

Is this a special, like bombing runs?

 

Or could this actually be Luke's contribution to the ground battles? He is in an x-wing after all and as far as I'm aware theres no bipedal model for Luke in the game.

Yeah, there really hasn't been any discussion about this, and I've been wondering too. My best guess would be that they can be called down for bombing runs too, but they'll use lasers.

 

Edit: They're not fake pics judging on the sites that have hosted them.

I believe the devs said you wont be able to bring the x-wings in for ground attacks, so it is probably something they had in, but took out.

Hmm, wish they had a date stamp or something on the pictures themselves.... Oh well i like the idea that we don't know "everything" about the game already, and that the Dev's have some things still kept close to their chest. So come release we will be pleasantly surprised  ;D

I think that it is images from the third "Mission" for the rebels i which you steal the X-wings from the Imps.

I concure with Fosh, but as for putting them back in... I think it will be possible.

as for modding, you can make a varient of a snowspeeder with an xwing modle

yea but I thought they should the rebels stealing the x-wings from that one planet, and it was a desert planet, not a forest one.

Well that picture with the X-Wings was from all the way back at E3 2005 (March isn't it? I forget) so you can bet it has been removed (because the devs said so).

Yea, what I think too, but we can still hope they didn't remove the coding so we can still have it.

 

If not we could always mod snowspeeders to x-wings.

There are countless examples of unused code being left in games(two words: Hot Coffee) and from what we have seen in the demo, EaW is not the exception. they have unused code coming out their @$$ in the XML files.

Well,

 

1. The images aren't fake, I've seen them be released and they are official.

 

2. They are probably (99.9% sure) from the single player campaign mission, where you steal x-wings, as fosh said.

 

3. There will probably (99.9% sure) not be x-wings on land during any other game mode.

What would be the Point in have two craft that can perform Strafing/bombing Runs? The Y-wings do the job well enough without X-Wing Support.

I was really hoping for aircraft to be used in dogfights on the ground, like in many other RTS games where you actually control them and tell them where to go, but I guess that isn't happening. :'(

that sounds like a nice idea... but hey, the game is easely moddeble so i think it could be edited so we get what we want
