You just need to keep your fighters moving, besides i think a X-wing-squad can easely take out a tie squad by far! when your trying to hide your y wing... well maybe you can make sure you order them in the battle when the imperial fighters are busy with your x wing and then order them in? for the spawned y wing... well like i said, keep moving, hit-and-run tactics. look at vietnam, those soldiers, attacked and retreated into the wild... more or less compareble

This is why I don't understand why all units don't have the "hunt for enemies" ability.  It really could be useful if you could group a mixed force, set them to hunt for enemies and than they would go off in that group/formation and patrol the map.  Or if you could assign your fighters missions via the special button like "hunt for bombers" or "engage fighters"
