igorimp Posted June 14, 2003 Posted June 14, 2003 OK. I'm getting really PISSED OFF! I practicly moded the entire game and tested it X times and everything went OK. Once I started to play around the DLL files, the game started crashing constantly after any battle ends. I've read that using same Special forces and fighters on BOTH sides can do this, but I've tried removing that and it still doesn't work. The thing that irritates me is that it doesn't seem to matter what ENTERS the battle, as the game crashes regarthless. Because of it, I can't really pinpoint what is causing the damn crashes. If anyone has any idea how to prevent this (or as to what might cause it), speak up and share your wisdom! There is only one life; There is only one truth; There is only one EMPEROR'S GRAND PLAN. SWR Staff - Executive Evaders99 Posted June 14, 2003 SWR Staff - Executive Posted June 14, 2003 Time to copy the original DLLs back and start over! igorimp Posted June 15, 2003 Author Posted June 15, 2003 Ouch! With 80+ new pictures and 40+ sounds, all characters and ships converted, all 3d models done, etc, etc: THAT'S GONNA HURT! igorimp Posted June 24, 2003 Author Posted June 24, 2003 A revalation at last! I have discovered the secret of CRASHING! I have restored my (afore mentioned) ruined game and have pinpointed the error to the Tactical.DLL file. This means that for some reason, SWR models crash the game after a battle. I've narrowed down the list of suspects to two possible causes: 1. I have exported several old models and added them to another location in the DLL file (to make more same models). The thing is that these models use the same texture, so that could be crashing it. 2. I have two-three LARGE models (~0,5-1 MB). Since the originals are cca 40 kBs, that could be the cause... Happy hunting! There is only one life; There is only one truth; There is only one EMPEROR'S GRAND PLAN. By the way, the Emperor's not dead... he's just resting...
Trejiuvanat Posted June 25, 2003 Posted June 25, 2003 I'd say it's the stuff with the textures... http://www.swrebellion.com/~jahled/Trej/banner.gif
igorimp Posted June 26, 2003 Author Posted June 26, 2003 Yes, probbably. Damn! And I was so close to making an Imperial-III Star Destroyer with textures! S***! the_mask Posted June 26, 2003 Posted June 26, 2003 vakundok was the first to discover the source of this error, when I tinkered around with the textures. You probably used one texture for more than one model If you use the same texture file on, say the close and the medium model for example, then you'll get this exception errorafter the battle ended. You can use the same texture file for different models, though. Just have the close model relate to texture.bmp and the medium to texture_m.bmp for example. Just use another name for the texture, that's all. http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/5183/animated9pn.gifhttp://img146.imageshack.us/img146/1778/reloadedbannerdu8.gifhttp://www.swrebellion.com/images/banners/rebellionbanner02or6.gif
igorimp Posted June 27, 2003 Author Posted June 27, 2003 Wow, that's great. I've been doodling around the forums for a while, but never got any evidence that a texture can be added to Rebellion. I know about the BMP converter that makes the files into Reb's format, but my 3d convertion and modelling programs (ALL 12 of them downloaded from the net) either don't support textures OR don't have the option in the trial version. Since I don't have 3d Studio Max, but rather a "lighter" version - Ulead Cool 3d Studio - I could always make a model with texutres, but converting the file into an .X file for SWR loses the texture... That's why all of my models are either ghost white or just plain grey. To make it more interesting, I exported a few models (including ISD-1) and reimported them to another location. I didn't work on the file just so I could retain the textures, and I guess that is when the crashing started. There is only one life; There is only one truth; There is only one EMPEROR'S GRAND PLAN. igorimp Posted June 27, 2003 Author Posted June 27, 2003 I've made a few - all imaginary, nothing to do with Star Wars. When I've done testing and improving them, I'll post them on my web site:http://swrebellion.topcities.com Don't know when I'll be finished, though...
