Re: 3 Classes of units missing from the game

Recommended Posts

The more I have played the demo the more apparent it has become that their is a lack of ground units to command.  The unit classes in the game represent only a fraction of the unit classes in the Star Wars universe and I think their is definitely room for the following 3 classes.  Furthermore, I feel that the slow pace of the ground troops causes the game to loose some of its Star Wars feel.  Star Wars draws its combat style from several human conflicts(WW2, 17-18th century naval warfare) and I feel these unit classes are essential to keep that style.

Repeater Troopers-This guy is your machine gun emplacement, he doesn't move around that much, is hard to setup but is great for defence and for attacking concentrated groups of troops. The machine gun was one of the key inventions that defined combat since the U.S. Civil War. This is the e-web and medium repeating blasters from Hoth.

Troop Transport Speeders- These carry your troops to the battle, they get them their quicker then walking and hold them safe inside until your tanks have eliminated the heaver units. Helps define the pace of action.  We have seen these numerous times in the Star Wars universe, aka MTT's/AT-OT's.

"Strike Mechs"-  This is your AT-PT, AT-RT, or Gien and Flash Speeders this unit is lighter then a tank but faster, designed to support your infantry where the tanks can't go.

The units you want are all from thingd from Galactic BattleGrounds that game was good but it just wasn't up to this standard and would have severely unbalenced the game also these sorts of units serve no real good and would just clog up play this game isn't like that you had a huge unit limit and could build the units as battle was going, this however if you have played the demo properly you will realise this game isn't like that this doesn't have units on demand you have to work for you reinforcements.

Also some of the units you want are in other places and under different names however the troop transports you want have no place in EaW and should not even be demanded in as it would ruin the game.

While I agree about the machinegun equivalent, the transports and troop support vehicles don't really have a place in EAW unless the Tatooine map is horribly smaller than the typical map.  When a unit can walk the entire length of the map in under a minute (not talking about the scout bike as it would be counted in mere seconds), the need for ground level transports is mitigated.  We are basically having the conflict from the point the transports would have already unloaded.

Were in the game (can be seen on older screenshots) but have been taken out. As it seems.

Mh. I think we have to see how large ground maps are to see if transports are usefull. There are many RTS games which have transports which in the end are never used (Dawn of War as an example)

AT-ST, Support Plattform (Swamp Speeder) or the POD-Walker (don't know the exact name right now) are my first guesses here.

Not sure.  The T4-B tank is pretty good at taking on infantry and the Tie Mauler is an infantry's worst nightmare.

I had entire legions of my troops fucking destroyed by those things... God, seriously, I'd have like 4 squads/units (whatever you call them).. Four clickable guys.  And they'd all get run over.  One goddamn tank would come in and just swath through them.  That in itself is okay, but it's frustrating because I had some tie-mauler-killers (forget what they're called) up infront of my infantry, and even with a few of them going full bore, the mauler just flew past and mashed my guys.
