Billy37 Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 Odds are I'm not supposed to make a new thread for this, but the stickes just seem to be for reporting issues and not getting them resolved. Slap me on the wrist and remove this thread if is shouldn't be here, but if someone can help me out I thank them immensely. All I want to do is play the game like the most of folks. AMD Athlon 1.84 GHz1 gig ddr-ramSapphire Radeon 9200SE Atlantis 128mbCatalyst 6.1 video drivers by ATIWindows XP SP2.Net Framework (required for catalyst drivers) -Error Type: computer restart -Location: galactic conquest -Language: demo in english, windows in english -Description:OK so everytime I try to play the game my computer restarts. I can sit and watch the menu for as long as I like, but as soon as I enter Galactic Conquest, it freezes and then the computer restarts. When I get back to my desktop, the resolution has been changed, which makes me think its a video problem, but my drivers are updated. I've tried playing 4 times, reinstalled, and tried 3 more times always with the same result. -Steps to reproduce:1. start game2. start galactic conquest3. watch comp freeze after about 5 seconds and then computer restarts
Dorkthehunter Posted January 23, 2006 Posted January 23, 2006 Hmmmm.....tough one.Is it a blue error screen that pops up, or does the computer just reboot?? You could try shutting your computer off(completely) for a while and then try again. Sometimes something gets overheated and it just needs to cool down. Also try to lower the graphics and everything else to lowest setting and see if that helps. Protecting the world from those who have an IQ higher than 30! Huzzah! Trust me...I'm a professional. Sparky Posted January 24, 2006 Posted January 24, 2006 Did you add/edit/delete any of the files? Have you tried uninstalling, and then reinstalling? Can you do any of the Tuturials?
SirNuke Posted January 24, 2006 Posted January 24, 2006 What power supply do you have? Before I got a quality power supply, my computer would restart when ever I entered games (in particular with Dawn of War). Also try running with the lowest settings, both detail and screen resolution. Zing!
Billy37 Posted January 24, 2006 Author Posted January 24, 2006 I tried the lowest settings and that worked. Thanks for the suggestion. So now I'm trying to figure out why the computer can't seem to handle higher settings. The computer's components aren't that old.

Billy37 Posted March 16, 2006 Author Posted March 16, 2006 So now I got the full game and figured that I wouldn't have to worry about this problem, but it still happens. Even on low settings? Any thoughts? Thanks.
DarthMaulUK Posted March 24, 2006 Posted March 24, 2006 In fact, ATi are now on version 6.3 of their drivers. So you will need those. Also, make sure that you installed Direct x9c direct from the cd. Make sure as well, that any anti-virus software is off during all installs. If you had/have any mods, remove them. When installing the drivers for your graphic card, its best to remove the old drivers first. Not to make you worry too much, your processor *could* be on its way out. A few years back my PC (with and AMD chip) decided to keep rebooting randomly and I couldn't understand why. I replaced everything. Graphic card, motherboard, RAM but it turned out to be the CPU. Power supply has been mentioned but unless you have a 200 watt power unit, I wouldnt worry too much about that for now as your PC specs are not that demanding.
