After you extract the Config.meg file into its respective folders, don't remove your Config.meg file for those of you who remember the BFME ini.big file.  If you remove it you will have nothing in your single player campaign list at all.... and don't ask me how I know that  ::)

Let's see...

25%+ of the models are missing...

No multiplayer....

Two usable maps....

No single player campaign...

Very incomplete AI...

Unable to save or load games...

I wouldn't worry about replacing the game.

Zing!

The app certainly seems to be the best of the MEG extractors released so far. However, it looks like it is hard coded to only open files in \GameData\Data\ - it won't access any others (i.e. the ones in \GameData\Data\Audio\SFX\), even if you move them into the \GameData\Data\ folder.

About that AI, I do not think is is as incomplete as you say, it is pretty good if setup right, both empire and rebel are in there and they can be pretty tough given right conditions, stuff has to be unlocked though, the demo was not designed for AI.

Hello, as the author of this application, i will explain why i did that in the first release, and didn't do a common file->open routine.

There is an xml file in the data folder called megfiles.xml, that is the file that i am reading in order to get a list of the actual used meg files in the games, if you would like to open other ones (temporarly) you can add them in the same format to the megfiles.xml file in that directory.

I will be modifying it to allow file->open on any .meg file, but first i wanted to make sure that my .meg reading was perfect before starting the modification process and creation of .meg files. But as a poster stated above, the game will run faster with a files in the folders rather then in the .meg, the .meg are just a way to clean everything up, although this file format is definately much faster then some of the previous westwood/ea file formats i have seen.

Any more issues, please let me know, there was an updated version of the application, make sure you have the latest version.

What about recompressing the extrated files cain?

The files are not stored in a compressed format, only an indexed file archive.  Thus why you see so many extractors on the market so quickly.

Currently you can just extract all to your gamedata folder, and then mod the files it creates, and the game will read them, although there are plans for many updates for this application, including, edit, delete, and create new .meg files.

Hope this answers a few of your questions.

Dante. Does the program resave DDS files as theres no free program that can resave them correctly?? Also how about a group extraction option (i.e it'll scan through the entire directory, locate ALL meg files and extract to the folder structure)??

the DDS files are currently just extracted, and not modified in any way, in the future you will have an option to convert them to other formats, but it is up to you to work with the DDS format.

Knowing these guys how they are, you can probably use .tga with the same filename, and it will work.

Group Extraction: Will work on it, thanks for the suggestion.
